In reply to callixtus. Yes, it was the fact that Malta was under British administration while the Mafia was flourishing next door that kept it out of Malta. The Mafia crossed the Atlantic to New York and Chicago but couldn't penetrate Malta. But after that, it was open season.

A few days after DeLiar handed in his nomination for the leadership contest, an acquaintance of mine who I have known for years and who is a dyed-in-the-wool Laburist (min ta' gewwa) since birth, referred to him gleefully as a '' hawwadi ''and that Labour ''kellhom fuqhiex jaqlawlu'' on the eve of the next general election and would have a field day if he becomes Nationalist Party leader. That very same person is now trolling all over social media lauding DeLiar as a victim of the ''klikka'' and urging those imbeciles on the ''closed'' groups to support DeLiar no matter what.
