These leadership contests are always a freak show. Remember the 2008 Labour contest, with the four contenders lined up and strolling down Republic Street?

Marie Louise Coleiro in her sandals, Joseph Muscat with his goatie, Michael Falzon in one of his shabby, oversized suits and Evarist Bartolo looking like an obstinate nun.

Goes to show the type of people involved in politics in Malta.
