Your comments tell me all I need to know about why the PN had such poor results at the polls, and why there is almost no hope to have a Nationalist-led government any time soon.

The Nationalist Party expects everyone to read between the lines, and when its message is not understood, it claims that people are stupid and can't read.

I will not rubbish what you state, however in real terms the results obtained by the Nationalist Party in the last elections are apocalyptic.

Many of the people who voted Nationalist this time did so not because they were inspired by its proposals, but as a stand against corruption. I am one of these people.

I was a regular client of The Handyman Centre owned by Simon Busuttil's father, but Simon himself was never there, though his brother used to be. I never got the impression that Simon felt the pulse of shopkeepers', probably because subconsciously, he hates that way of making a living.

Labour did not change only in "crookery and spite", it positioned itself successfully as a guardian of the middle classes. In the meantime the PN fishes unsuccessfully for the Mintoffian vote.

Funny (or rather sad) that the answer to your question is in your comment. Not surprised, given that your understanding of politics doesn't goes beyond the need to be in power.

Kompliha is-sentenza: "neither of which will be able to form a majority".

Stupidest idea ever. The only way they would be able to govern is to go into a coalition with each other. Why split then?

Clever cookie.

Rubbish. Nearly half the electorate voted Nationalist in the general election last June. I can't BEAR Maltese apocalyptic thinking.

And of course the Nationalist Party changed. If it hadn't changed it would have become irrelevant. The Labour Party has changed dramatically too, except in crookery and spite.

You miss the point that if the Nationalist Party hadn't changed, a huge slew of people, in whom 'religio et patria' provokes shudders, wouldn't be voting for it.

Yes, you are right about the small business operators (and you forget that Simon Busuttil's father is one such - he ran a hardware shop in Birkirkara) but that holds true in general. All politicians across the board have shifted their focus to big business operators.
