Don’t mock tv remote covers! My 20 year old tv remote thanks me every day for having covered it in plastic all these years. It wouldn’t have survived this long without it.

Is the one of the few acceptable cases where it’s ok to put function over form.

What about our front gardens? All tiled and not a plant in them! This was “encouraged” by allowing development of basements below the front gardens and by the stupid “semi-basement” policy. Front gardens on a 6m frontage then became a ramp to the semi-basement and a staircase to the elevated ground floor. The front gardens in Nazju Ellul Street in Gzira were full of plants and trees in the 70s. Look at them now …..waste lands!

I have lived away from Malta just short of 30 years but visit once or twice a year and I have witnessed the uglification of the island.

What really gets my goat is when I meet old friends who, a few minutes into the conversation, come out with the pearl of wisdom in a ridiculous tearful voice, “Hawn ma hawnx isbah minnhu.”

One day I am going to just say it: “Why don’t you xxxx right off.”

A couple of years ago there was a whole furore when a family picnicked on a public lawn and the ensuing retort by one of the family members was brilliant.
