Why a business or law degree in particular? You do a degree supposedly to educate yourself and not to serve as a “money tap”.

That’s a very Maltese utilitarian view of education. Even people with professional qualifications might end up on a salary (in fact many do) but they are likely to be better paid because some degrees are (rightly or wrongly) better regarded than others.

Yes, I know you mean “financially rich”. That’s exactly why I asked you to define “rich”. Because in my experience, Maltese people say “rich” when what they mean is comfortably off, or fairly affluent. And also in my experience, those raised in families in which everyone was on a wage (and perhaps also a salary) think that a business or a law degree is a money tap in the garden. Very ignorant.

I’ll just say this. My grandfather and all his brothers went there, as a consequence of which he refused to even entertain the notion of sending my father to any kind of church school or boarding school, let alone that one. And my husband went there, as a consequence of which none of our sons did, except one of them to sixth form college, to which he went under duress like his mother before him. But we decided that sixth form is OK when there are no other suitable options, because schools can’t do much damage to people over the age of 16.
