That’s exactly what men with a chip like that do: they marry a woman as a SOCIAL trophy and not because they love her, then proceed to trample on her as the symbol of everything from which they felt locked out in life. In conquering and trampling on her, they get their revenge on society. Mintoff did it too, and of course she was English. She had to be.

The woman ends up completely financial dependent: he discourages her from working or sabotages her every attempt, fills her up with children so that no other man will take her on if ever she decides she’s had enough, and so it goes on. A story as old as time.

He’ll be causing his wife to lose her inheritance if he goes on like this. What a horrible person he is – he married far above him, and reduced her to being his chattel.

Delia obviously hasn’t thought this through.

If I was enjoying that kind of lifestyle, had multi-million in investments offsetting my debts which were under control, etc, why would I want to put myself in the limelight and become a mere politician?

Power perhaps? But there are other ways to influence politicians without actually becoming one (think of Keith Kasco and Brian Tonna as extreme examples – they never ran for public office, and yet…)

Most politicians in Malta run for public office because they’re not really good at doing anything else. And yet, Delia is willing to give up his shares in the businesses he’s involved in for a mere €43K a year? Pull the other one…
