He should never have said that, Claude. What does being afraid of him have to do with the price of eggs? If anything, he should have said, “What do they think, that I have no manners?”

But he mentioned fear, not manners, because that is the context in which he frames things – with the bravado of a bully. You either accept or don’t accept a meeting on the basis of fear or the lack of it.

In my world, you accept or don’t accept on the basis of manners or whether it is politically appropriate. Fear simply doesn’t come into it.

He’s from the wrong side of the tracks and it really shows, sorry.

I am afraid of Joseph Muscat but not of Simon Busuttil, or Lawrence Gonzi or Eddie Fenech Adami.

In fact up to a week ago I was afraid of only Joseph Muscat. Now I’m afraid of Joseph Muscat AND Adrian Delia.

Malta can’t be in a worse situation than this, in which the people fear both the government and the Opposition.
