Simon Busuttil resigned because the PN made no inroads into Labour’s majority. In any other European country (and other civilised nations) that is what a responsible leader of a losing party would do. The problem here is that Malta is not a normal country and Simon Busuttil’s resignation simply opened the way for the party to be taken over by opportunists and self-serving backstabbers.

This is what is going to happen. The other Nationalist candidates on the 7th district will contest the casual election, as will the PD ones and possibly also Labour. The one elected, a PN one, will then resign, following which the party will co-opt Delia in his/her place.

Now about contacting the PN candidates in question to make them see the light: of course they know what they’re doing; that’s blind allegiance to the party. Just listen to the party media these days. Pure fascist thinking. Revolting and utterly disgusting.

In reply to Peppi. It's not hard to understand. Those who are elected outright trigger a casual election when they resign, and those who are elected in a casual election don't (because you can't have one casual election after amother).

Thank you for clarifying madam even though the difference eludes me.

If I am assessing this correctly, it is a mutually-agreed, provision to enable manoeuvrability to constitutionally override electoral results.

I say this because I feel that pretenders with zero votes (like Dr Delia) do not belong in parliament.

Let me put it this way – those who don’t support the present leader and therefore are not happy with the current situation, have my respect. While it is tempting to put everyone in the same basket, I do not think that’s reality. There are also decent politicians whom we voted into parliament.
