“A lot of progress has been made on this matter by the present Nationalist government, and Labour will continue to build on that.” It’s a deviation tactic. It means “In 9+15 years of opposition we have come up with no alternatives, so we will just carry on doing the same as present.”

“More needs to be done. ” It means that “we have no idea what can be done differently, but we will just try to impress you into thinking that we have more interesting ideas.”

“We will provide more incentives.” This means that “We have no idea what needs to be done, so we will just pretend that by throwing the hard-earned money of others at problems, they will be solved.”

In normal circumstances, there should also be a guarantee. But beware of the small print. It will contain words like “Ahna nitnejku minn din il-garanzija” and “din il-garanzija hija bhal karta tal-incova.”

Some time ago this was “Gvern Gdid immexxi minni.”
I see that Muscat has now been advised not to scare voters with the last bit.

He later was CEO at maltaNET, Malta’s leading ISP, for 7 years and subsequently Chief Commercial Officer at GO plc. He is the Chairman of the IT business Section of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry.

It’s long been my understanding that that is exactly what they aim to do since they have no new ideas to put forward.

But anyone with a shred of intelligence would know that in an ever changing world, ‘just carrying on as usual’ will not work beyond the first new/problematic situation that arises.

From then on it will be management by crises: half-baked ideas, short-sighted decisions and a hotchpotch of short-term solutions.

Any government after the next election shall be a Gvern gdid. Even the PN in government will be a gvern gdid, jew ahjar, legislatura gdida. Furthermore, to my knowledge nobody ever said that ICT should be open only to large companies.

And, pray, which other companies are there in Malta apart from “kumpaniji Maltin u Ghawdxin”? What does “b’mod specjali kumpaniji Maltin u Ghawdxin” mean? “Maltin u Ghawdxin” as opposed to what exactly? Do they want to create a distinction between Maltese-owned companies (this Ghawdxin denomination is mythical to me) and foreign-owned companies?

Because otherwise I see no reason to say “b’mod specjali kumpanniji Maltin u Ghawdxin” when there is no Gozitan Register of Companies. So, if they mean all Maltese-registered companies, I reiterate, as opposed to what exactly?

“Dan qalu l-Mexxej tal-Partit Laburista Dr Joseph Muscat waqt laqgħa ma’ delegazzjoni miċ-Chamber of Commerce, li matulha ddiskuta numru ta’ proposti f’dan il-qasam.” Interesting how the proposals do not get one single mention. We are still in the dark as to what these proposals amount to.

“Dr Muscat qal li l-punt tat-tluq għandu jkun li l-Gvern jokkupa l-inqas spazju possibbli, fejn jieħu l-irwol ta’ regolatur u faċilitatur u jagħti l-ispazju lis-settur privat.” This has been Gonzi’s prerogrative since day one.

“Filwaqt li saħaq fuq il-ħtieġa li nattiraw aktar investiment barrani f’dan il-qasam, il-Mexxej Laburista enfasizza l-bżonn ta’ aktar inċentivi lill-kumpaniji Maltin u Għawdxin biex ikomplu jikbru u jimirħu.”

Really?

Joseph has to understand that he can no longer say “hemm bzonn” without actually saying how this “bzonn” will be satisfied. He will be in the driving seat. He has to tell us what he means by “aktar incentivi”. What exactly? Please tell us. We await such illumination with bated breath.

“Dr Muscat qal li fl-aħħar 25 sena saru passi kbar ‘il quddiem fil-qasam tal-ICT f’pajjiżna, u Gvern Ġdid se jkompli jtejjeb fuq dak li diġa’ sar.” Wow! He acknowledges that something has been done.

What is this “Gvern Gdid”? Qed jibza’ illi jekk juza l-kelma “Laburista” d-delegati tal-Kamra tal-Kummerc jitnaffru? How will this Gvern Gdid (sounds like a mysterious entity, reminds me of dictators who create myths around their persona) will improve on what has already been achieved?

Tal-biki. These same people will be running out country in less than twelve months. Tal-biki. They do not even know how to report on a meeting, of course, always assuming that there was something to report about.
