In her heyday she was at the beck and a call of all the people who sought her help.

At one time she was even accused of being more inclined to help the Reds rather the the Blues.

This episode is analogous to the Cachia Zammit drama of the 70s.

What matters to Labour is to accuse and in the process degrade and vilify the individual involved.

They are not interested in the final outcome.

I do feel sorry for her. May she find the support that she deserves during this taxing period of her political sunset.

Gozo now is totally unrecognisable to what it was before Giovanna, both regarding infrastructure and quality of life for the Gozitans.

It is true that she was only doing her job, however she has helped (not in the clientelism sense) thousands of people throughout the years, well beyond the call of duty, quietly, privately and silently, without any personal gain – not even that of winning votes.

Like her or not, she is an extremely capable and strong woman who has done what would take ten men to do – and that, I think, is the crux of the problem, and the main reason why the largely misogynistic PL has been baying for her blood and plotting her downfall for years.

Another reason for this witch-hunt is that she is an openly religious person, another bone of contention for the traditionally anti-clerical (and by this I don’t mean liberal) PL.

All in all, Giovanna is a good, decent person with tons of integrity and I’m proud to call her my friend.

I only hope that the truth comes out in the end, and that the baying wolves out to destroy her will be exposed for the bastards they really are.

In the meantime, a heartfelt thanks to her for all her good works throughout the years, the greatest chunk of which never made the news because they were personal and private stories.
