There is a public path. It runs right beside the edge of the cliffs. Been used for centuries.

Maltese DOES have a word for that. But it was last used in the very early 1990s, before everything became slick and “hub”. We used to called it simply “kampanja”.

There’s something very deep at work here. We used to say “shopkeeper”. Now they’re “businessman”. We used to say “businessman”. Now they’re “entrepreneur”.

We used to say “buildings”. Now it’s “real estate”. I sense a desperate hamming up of everything – the entire nation turned into one big salesman.

I repeat: the meaning of ‘virgin land’ is land untouched by human hand, and not land without building on it. You might find a tract of virgin land, for example, in the darkest Amazon.

Land terraced into fields is by definition not ‘virgin land’.

I really don’t know how private this land really is but that’s Gozo we’re talking about.

Are virgins the only people getting raped?

Does the word ‘rape’ apply to unwanted sexual encounters to people who are virgins only?

What word is used for non-virgin people who are sexually assaulted?

Some people get excited at the word ‘virgin’ and the first thing that comes to their mind is forbidden sex. Now that’s archaic and I suspect the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for.

Let’s stick to the point: a large stretch of our land that’s currently ODZ and is used for agricultural purposes is being given to one rich Jordanian to use for his private business.

The words of a pauper, it gets worse;

‘…we built so many structures on ODZ, such as the hospital and the power station. Why are we making such a fuss on this educational project, which will change the south….’

By his logic, Delimara should be dismantled and Marsa extended.

As the aerial footage shows – and the news footage describing the concerns of farmers backs up – the entire area is used for agriculture.

‘Virgin land’ means land that is wild and in its natural state, and not land with no buildings on it.

Even the rape of children is different, because the primary drive there is sexual. It is terrible, but still it is different.
