Daphne, I think you should clarify if the property is “owned” by Gaffarena as you stated in the post above or if in fact it was just a slip and it is confirmed that he is just squatting.

As for the venue itself, that place must be in breach of every single health and safety regulation for that type of business.

Even the access road is an issue. It is a single (barely) lane country track and I cannot imagine the traffic situation when the hordes are coming or going in unison.

Then all you need is a small mishap that requires emergency vehicle access and you have all the ingredients for a drama that Peppi of Xarabank would feast on for weeks.

And what about the food preparation? This is what we are allowed to see in what they think are good pictures, so imagine what goes on behind the scenes if they are happy to show us the ‘cook’ basting meat with a brush he bought from the ironmongery.

Trying to explain why this is a bad idea would be a waste of time.

As other readers have pointed out, this venue is operating outside any form of supervision from the relevant authorities, so I have very little sympathy for that fellow who thought that this would be a good place for Mother’s Day lunch.

Having said that, I know that not everyone has bottomless budgets for these events but although I’ve been away from the island for some time, I’m sure there are alternatives.

If Peppi needs a new idea for a TV show, he could start his own version of Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares…he should have enough material for the first season in this place by itself.

If the the police and the other supervisory authorities do not come down on this place like a ton of bricks in the next few days after all that has been exposed, it just means that the island is more of a lost case than I ever thought.

Indeed. It’s a question of quantity over quality. To many Maltese eating out is only about value for money and large portions, that equates to good food. I wouldn’t give the food in those pictures to a stray dog.
