SHUDDER: Antoine Cavett, Marco Gaffarena and Cavett’s Place

Cavett’s Place – address: “Industrial Zone, Entrance 2, Tal-Handaq, Qormi” – is owned by Marco Gaffarena and operated by the semi-literate Antoine Azzopardi, known as Antoine Cavett (pronounced Chuv Ette, like the Maltese for ‘key’) of ‘Pink Promotions’.

It is totally illegal, yet nobody does anything about it – not under this government, not under the Nationalist government.

And to make matters worse, Antoine ‘Cavett’ Azzopardi has a history of drug-dealing – but more about that later.

Cavett is a family nickname, Tac-Cavett. Antoine ‘Cavett’ used to operate out of fields, again completely illegally, somewhere near Mtarfa until he teamed up with Marco Gaffarena.

The place is actually in an industrial estate: a massive swimming-pool with an open-air bar and restaurant which caters for large groups of people and is open for lunch and lounging/swimming and then as a bar in the evening.

It is horrible. I froze in aesthetic and sensory pain just looking at these photographs – tacky, disgusting atmosphere, cheap décor (those plastic chairs…), old people’s home table-settings, AWFUL food, APPALLING people. This is really my idea of hell unveiled.

Talk about the Other Malta – other planet, more like.
