That is a shockingly illogical statement from somebody in such a senior position at the University of Malta, underpinned by some very unusual reasoning.

John Suda abuses young women. Whether he is a good actor or not is COMPLETELY irrelevant.

And if he is considered to be one of the best (Maltese) actors of his generation, then I am fully justified in the decision I took years ago – largely after watching too much of his and similar over-played acting in tedious loud voices – of never watching another play here in Malta again.

I recall taking part in the inter-schools drama competition, and Suda was a drama teacher for some school.

He tried to have our play disqualified because there was a non-Maltese pupil participating in the Maltese play competition.

He was always badgering the judges for his play to win the competition. For this reason our school stopped participating.
