It occurs to me that the Italian Supercup, this year between Juventus and Lazio, is being played in Shanghai next weekend. I wonder how many Labour MP’s are suddenly going to find a ‘business’ reason to visit Sai Mizzi. Has she been tasked with obtaining tickets for the match?

Scarlet, you are just missing a point. She is Chinese. Her family concept is very different, and she has already reached her objective.

On the matter of the bodyguards I don’t think Maltese diplomats face serious threats posted overseas; it shows the value China is assigning to her.

How unusual is that? I don’t know why you are surprised. Most women in Malta build their family life around their family of origin and not their husband. They spend more time with their children, parents and siblings than they do with their husband.

Even when they spend time with their husband, it’s usually along with various other family members of the above list.

So imagine being in a situation where you are deprived of all that, even if your husband is a nice and communicative man, let alone when he isn’t.

I don’t feel sorry for her at all. Family life isn’t permanent anyway. It’s only temporary. Children grow up and leave in the real world outside Malta. It’s even happening in Malta nowadays.

You’re wrong. I think one of the most obvious reasons why she became desperate in Malta and scarpered is because she had no family life here.

She must have been really lonely.

She probably has a whole lot more family life in China – that’s where her family is, after all.

Konrad Mizzi hardly constitutes a family.

As a wife and mother myself, I really feel sorry for her – she may have lots of money, bodyguards a chauffeur, but surely no family life at all.

Three minders and a driver to report back to both the husband and the Chinese authorities. Our own Foreign Ministry couldn’t give a hoot as long as Chris Cardona pays for the chauffeur.
