The appointment of any person to an official position, especially one that represents Malta to the outside world, is, or should be, subject to scrutiny of that person’s public pronouncements on matters of public interest.

The appointment means an endorsement, or at least tolerance, of such views. The Prime Minister of Malta and the Minister of Foreign Affairs cannot run away from this fact.

That’s Kent Ekeroth, who became famous for the “Iron bar scandal” where he and a colleague armed themselves with iron bars in a drunken brawl.

Later he was also caught for tax evasion. Also, it’s some-what prudent to point out that his mother is a Kazakh Jew, who also got busted for tax evasion.

I’m mentioning this due to his harsh stance on immigrants committing crimes – her being Jewishhas no bearing on my views.

In short, I find the description a young student gave Austin Gatt quite prudent for this man.
