I’m no expert, but I suspect ‘gangala’ is a Maltese corruption of the Italian ‘ghiandola’, a reference to the thyroid gland. When referring to double chin, I heard people using expressions like “X’gangala ghandu” and ” X’hawsla ghandu” but I doubt either one is anatomically correct, not most of the time anyway, because a double chin is often not caused by an inflated thyroid gland or an inflated crop.
