Do you call this a dying Labour government? The 81-87 one had already been there for 10 years.

This one is only in its third year after a historic landslide victory. The other one didn’t even have the voting majority.

Although this government is equally beset by a serious political crisis (the other one’s was even bigger) it has the arrogance of a bullying teenager.

It seems we have to face it, unfortunately. For the next two years at least we have to expect these kind of corrupt incidents and behavioural patterns.

As Daphne says we still have a long way to go, as a people, to be democratic in a European sense. To a large extent the government reflects the current state of its countrymen.

Totally wrong – and straight from the very same mindset which you are criticising. Prime Minister’s do not order retribution or due process, except in corrupt countries where democracy is weak (like Malta).

In true democracies, the separation of powers functions effectively and institutions are strong, with continuity in their administration.

The police are not agents of the government in democracies. If the Opposition leader now wishes to promise anything at all, it should be the strengthening of Malta’s institutions and the devolution of powers from ministers to those institutions, with cast-iron walls between institutions and cabinet ministers, so that due process is real and effective.

Thanks for mentioning the medicines issue. I thought I was the only one suffering from changed pills (changed twice in a short span of time) to pills which are ineffective and just about as useful as the package they come in.

They are pillaging the whole establisment, abusing as a matter of fact, in the knowledge that they will not face due process when they are removed from power.

Simon Busuttil has to show his teeth and threaten repercussions and that this wrong doing will not go unpunished.
