It is entirely relevant where the Minister for Energy’s “house in London” is because declaring a “house in London” among your assets is like declaring “a bracelet”, which could be made of plastic or made of diamonds.

As for setting up an offshore (secret) company to hold a house in Blackheath bought for GBP365,000 – well, what can I say.

I would give the same response to anyone who was not from London as that’s what Londoners do (as does anyone from large cities with many districts). Just stating London is not misleading in any way. By asking “oh really, where?” it would indicate that they have a knowledge of London and I can narrow it down further. Central London is just that. Central.

If you were right I would need to establish why I have a vote in the London Mayoral elections given that I cannot see Big Ben from my back garden and there are no Beafeaters riding black cabs up and down my road.

The underpinning rationale of a declaration of assets to parliament is honesty and full disclosure – which means that ‘house in London’ is dishonest and ‘house in Blackheath SE whatever’ is not.

You have sort of hit the nail on the head there. Addressing Maltese, who tend not to know where Blackheath is, Mizzi says that he has a house in London.

If I meet him in London and ask him where he lives (as I do live in London) he can specify and say Blackheath. Blackheath is a part of London. Not central. Not city of London granted, but part of London with London at the end of the address a London postcode, transport system and telephone number prefix. I’m not going to carry on.
