The English vowels a, o and u are difficult for non-native English speakers to pronounce. ‘Th’ is even harder. Some Maltese think it is cool to pronounce ‘a’ as ‘i’, in words such as festival, salad, final etc. whereas apple is pronounced ‘epil’.
