I understand your reasoning, but that strategic value is finite. Is it reasonable to pay 66 million euros a year to keep the airline? Almost certainly not.

We’re in an age of air travel where if sufficient numbers of passengers want to travel from A to B, it will happen.

But continuing to hold an island hostage by spreading fears of isolation is unfair. We already have another Maltese airline besides the national one you know, and they make decent money because they have investors to answer to.

If you really think about it, that dependency idea is nothing but a myth has been perpetuated by Air Malta.

Yes, Air Malta flies an organ every once in a while, but they overcharge their customer by tenfold relative to their competitors every single time.

And guess what? There are air ambulances that you can charter these days at pennies compared to footing the cost of this sick beast.
