“So the Economy Minister and his brothel adventures and the Home Affairs Minister and his trigger-happy chauffeur/babysitter are almost a tie in the large lexicon of Labour government scandals, beating Konrad Mizzi and Panamagate by a long shot, Panamagate being more of a slow burner.”

And I can tell you something else. It’s not the moral outrage that fans the flames, but the scurrility of it all. I told you once and I’ll tell you again: partisan politics aside, Panamagate will never grip the public’s imagination because the immorality of it is not tangible to the man in the street.

Chris Cardona, Economy Minister and axe-wielding (metaphorically) deputy leader of the Labour Party, has come to personify the present government as much at the Office of the Prime Minister, the centre of the corruption uncovered by the Panama Papers.

Secret companies and bank accounts in tax-haven regimes, alcohol fueled crude behaviour, loose moral standards, outright lies, and cronyism to support this corrupt infrastructure.

All this is lauded and applauded when the Labour Party hierarchy meets at party or parliamentary level. Is this what the electorate expected when they voted in 2013?

These guys are on a helter-skelter ride, making the best out of it. They never had it so good, gobbling everything in sight with all of them capable of blackmailing each other about escapades and thieving.

That is the true picture which will take a massive effort to overturn. But, thankfully, such scenarios always crash eventually.
