In reply to J Grima. The post I replied to referred to former Soviet republics. Slovenian, Bulgarian and Serbo-Croat are south Slavic languages. Other slavic languages have e.g. tak and di for yes.

As far as I know it’s only Russian. Ukrainian and Belorussian have another word for ‘yes’. No, not all ex-USSR republics for they all have their own language different from Russian even if many still speak Russian as a second language. The people of the Baltic states hate Russian and Russians.

The man stammers, hesitates, is lost for the right vocabulary, uses vocabulary incorrectly, leaves some sentences unfinished, uses etcetera in every other sentence so that no one knows what he has in mind, repeats words and phrases one after another and his diction is unclear.

I never watch his programmes because he irritates me, but yesterday I felt compelled to make an exception. He would never have been assigned a programme on a serious channel but it’s TVM we’re talking about.
