At last, I thought, an honourable man who would put the country’s interests before his own. Pah! It couldn’t last, could it.

In the same way as he is culpable for turning a blind eye to the very questionable activities of his associates, so is his party for allowing him to get away with it and bring his party and the country as a whole into disrepute.

It is time to cast aside party politics and for the Maltese people to demand their country back, to have a government which respects and upholds the rule of law. Maybe that’s why he was cosying up to Aliyev, to get some tips.
