I find it very strange how a professional can justify to work with or for someone who he believes is corrupt or unethical. It is why, for example, I cannot understand how lawyers who defend drug dealers, wife beaters, rapists and paedophiles can sleep at night. Maybe they rationalise it by saying that these individuals have wonderful proposals for the rest of their lives.

I find your approach interesting, in that you look at the proposals rather than at who will implement them. Do you use this approach in other areas of your life? I ask out of curiosity, because I do it the other way round. First I decide whether I trust people and whether they are decent, then I look at what they can do. But to me, the second is a non-starter without the first. That’s the approach I take when deciding who to work with, too.

And I don’t agree with you that both parties are the same – they are not at all the same (and I speak as somebody whose business is observing Maltese political parties just as yours is accountancy). Face it, you’re not exactly talking to an idiot here, so it figures that if I haven’t switched from Labour to Nationalist and back again over the years depending on policies, it’s because I have good reason not to. And the events of the last three decades have proved me right on that score.
