Being easy-going about sex-related issues does not make a politician liberal

Published: August 17, 2011 at 9:53am

To the idiotic in our midst, this is what makes a progressive liberal

All you have to do to test a politician’s (or any other person’s) much vaunted progressive liberalism is wave an immigrant at them.

It works like magic.

We all know the notorious case of progressive liberal Joseph Muscat who said that if Italy refuses to rescue people, then we should do so too (as a result of which they would drown), and who immediately got a hasla papali from the prime minister in parliament (the best inpromptu speech I have heard him deliver in years).

The rioting at the Hal Safi detention camp – and we would be rioting too if we were incarcerated in those abysmal and desperate conditions instead of at the VVIP enclosure at the David Guetta party – is drawing out the true nature of our liberal progressives, and it just makes me laugh with contempt.

I guess I was right when I described them the other day as people who think they are liberal just because they believe it’s OK to have sex with somebody to whom you’re not married or who is of the same gender. And even there, believe me, squeeze them and you’ll find they’ve got problems, which is why they’re gagging to have the state legitimise their relationship through divorce and remarriage.

Here’s Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, the man who has turned tantrums and personal rioting into a political career, preaching on his Facebook wall:

THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AMONG US HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE GUESTS IN OUR COUNTRY AND THEY SHOULD BEHAVE ACCORDINGLY
——

Min irid jitkellem, f’gieh kemm hemm.

And here’s Labour youth activist Larson Pisani – another member of the new generation of Labour activists who have been afflicted for life with the white-trash names from hell, a permanent hallmark of their underclass origins – on timesofmalta.com’s comments board:

Larson Pisani

They want freedom ??? fine send them back to their countries

——

Larson Pisani votes for a small-minded and xenophobic political party (Labour), is a member of a kumitat tal-klabb tal-banda tar-rahal, a keen festa activist and popped in here to bicker with me when I said that his various interests indicate that he is a conservative traditionalist, which is the polar opposite of a progressive liberal.

Unbelievably, despite his views and behaviour, he still describes himself as a progressive liberal because that’s what Joseph Muscat told him he is.

This kind of stupidity just makes me desperate.

Illegal immigrants who end up in our country should be given obligatory lessons in basic Maltese and English. They should be encouraged to do community work. They should be helped to understand local customs and our way of life. They should be taught to respect those of us who work with them, particularly soldiers. They should be given decent accomodation but vandalism should be dealt with severely. The EU can do much more to help our small country face this situation.

    • il-Ginger says:

And why is the above wrong in your opinion?

    • dudu says:

That’s exactly what they are asking for.

      • Marku says:

Have a basic knowledge of Maltese and English? Do community work? Respect others? I’m not sure how immigrants can be taught these skills seeing that we natives aren’t exactly well-versed in those areas.

    • NGT says:

Er, JPO should note that many Maltese “should be given obligatory lessons in basic Maltese and English. They should be encouraged to do community work. They should be helped to understand local customs and our way of life. They should be taught to respect those of us who work with them” even though they ARE given decent (free) accommodation.

Press on- nothing can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Perseverance and determination alone are omnipotent.

I read his post on fb and I also added some comments to it.

I think our attitude towards illegal immigration has to change, the us and them is not working.

How about putting ourselves in their shoes? How would we react.

Riots lead to nowhere, however their being here illegally does not justify any kind of racism. Did any of us have a say on where to be born?

  4. Tanya says:

Jeffrey has support from some of his progressive liberal friends on the Facebook group IVA GHAL-LIGI TAD-DIVORZJU:

    #
Joe Coleiro – I think that the best way is those who cause trouble in our country should be sent to there country the same day if possible
    11 hours ago
    #
Stephen Martin – they should be held liable for their actions not wait for one of them to rape or do a big crimte, in order to press serious charges. It seems like everybody is closing one eye because they’ re afraid of being called racist. Thanks Jeffrey for talking about this subject.

Two more people who think that they are progressive liberals because they do the normal thing and say that a country must have divorce legislation.

The more I hear them talk, the more they sound like the Lega Nord.

I wonder whether Larson Pisani, keen festa activist, has ever come across the Coptic community attending mass at St. James’ church on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe he’s not yet familiar with the festa held in Lalibela.

So much for the information highway and the world at one’s fingertips.

The dentist should refrain from playing into Labour’s not so subtle populist agenda, or is the partying too intense?

He could post his blurb to the JRS Facebook profile, but then, all they have is a website.

Oh Jeffrey, blessed art thou amongst women.

  8. anthony says:

These progressive liberals with concocted names ending in ‘on’ openly support PL because they have two goals in life.

    A ‘post mal-gvern’ and a ‘post tal-gvern’ – possibly a ‘masonet’.

That is where their life’s vision ends. Sadly, for them everybody else’s plight is of nuisance value only.

  9. N Zahra says:

The way I see it, the question regarding immigration comes in two time frames; the present and the future.

Taking into consideration just the present, then the right thing to do is to support these immigrants on humanitarian grounds, and for reasons that have been discussed time and time again.

But taking a glimpse of the future reveals another story.

I spent eight months living in the UK recently and discovered what I believe to be the end result of too much liberalism is. The manageability and effects of immigration (by immigrants I mean non-white, non Christian immigrants) depends on demographics.

If there are relatively few of them compared with the general population, then the ethnic population’s values more likely generally rub off on the immigrant community who end up well-integrated into their host society.

On the other hand when the numbers are too large, ghettos are formed whereby immigrants form their own enclaves and territories within their adopted country. Over time and in sufficient concentrations, they gradually but definitely erode their host countries’ values by replacing them with their own.

The demographics are affected in two ways, firstly by the absolute numbers of immigrant arrivals, and secondly, by the fact that these people reproduce much faster than their ethnic host country’s population.

I have first hand experience of these things in Belgium and the UK. None of the ethnic residents I know are happy about the situation – but its too late for them to act because they are way past the point of no return.

So the question I believe we should ask is not whether we should be liberal, nationalist, labour etc – but what sort of society do we want to have in 20 years time. Do you want to be your court cases to be presided over by someone of fundamental Muslim parents? (Maybe I shouldn’t have asked that question… :)

Asking ourselves this question is legitimate and should not be considered taboo. If the current Nationalists are to be considered fundamentalists… just imagine the Muslim fundamentalists!

So call me what you want… but I would like our society to become more liberal and tolerant and governed by a secular state. Other countries’ experiences show that over time, due to large amounts of non Christian, precisely the opposite happens.

    • Kenneth Cassar says:

“Do you want to be your court cases to be presided over by someone of fundamental Muslim parents?”.

What would be the problem? However, if you meant “presided by a fundamentalist muslim”, name one European State that has a court presided by a fundamentalist muslim, and then we will discuss.

    • La Redoute says:

The present: more and more Maltese acquire the material trappings of ‘success’ but remain mired in mediocrity of thought.

The future: someone with a flashy car, branded clothing and a degree takes up public office and takes decisions with all the skill and aplomb of an akkanit tal-festi tar-rahal taghna m’hawnx bhalna.

What was that you were saying about Muslim fundamentalists?

  10. Stanley Cassar Darien says:

Dr Gonzi’s speech would have been brilliant if he was the Archbishop. He is the Prime Minister of Malta and should focus on the political side of things and talk about real solutions. The Immigration situation is a mess mainly because of this administration. They can’t even run a bath, let alone a country.

Have we ever heard one single politician talk positively about immigration? Has any politician talked about how they can benefit our economy and/or our social fabric? They are locked up and detained in disgusting conditions. Dr Gonzi and his “I love Jesus a bit too much for my liking” friends are just creating a scene where hatred is thriving. The only information one hears is how they are a problem, of we as Maltese are getting invaded but we have to save them from drowning because it says so in the Bible. The only solution that they seem to be able to come up with is to blame the EU. What do you expect from a group of people that can’t even manage Paceville?

There will be problems in the future. The first generation of immigrants are always very submissive, a bit like your besotted fans here but it won’t be long before they wise up and when they do then I am sure that there will be problems. I do not see the River Chadwick foaming with much blood but I do see a lot of social problems that can be avoided. We have nearly six thousand Moslems in this country now but only one mosque with a capacity of 550 people. Why?

I can quote a number of studies if it helps and of course there are countless NP supporters posting similar crap on the internet but I am sure that you know that already. They might of course be elves posing as DeMartinos…….

    • Kenneth Cassar says:

The PN’s policies on immigration might not be perfect. The problem is that the PL has no policy on immigration. And that’s worse.

      • ciccio2011 says:

The PL have borrowed Norman Lowell’s policies on immigration. And that’s even worse.

  11. Grace says:

Funny how some people believe in giving all the rights and better accomodation to illigal immigrants, then they begrudge, single maltese mothers, unemployed or underpaid maltese workers. Not to mention the bland hatred towards their fellow Maltese just because they tend to side with an opposing party or band club.

    • Kenneth Cassar says:

Ah yes, Maltese people have it so bad, which is why people such as Grace see fit to compare their “plight” to that of “illegal immigrants”.

I wonder why not even one of those Grace mentioned ever suggested they be allowed to switch places with refugees and asylum seekers.

  12. Associating these people from Labour (and also most Nazzjonalisti u Liberali) with Liberalism gives a bad name to this sphere of political thought. They are not Liberals at all.

The Liberalist agenda (European) is clear and includes abortion, euthanasia, gay marriage and adoption of children by gay couples, removal of religious symbols from public places and any references to religions from state constitutions, absolute separation of church and state besides other social freedoms.

When these people come out espousing these ideas then you may call them Liberals. Until then, call them Confused Moderates.

  13. ciccio2011 says:

My God, Daphne. You are making Larson a Labour hero.

On a serious note, I find this phenomenon of banda committees such an interesting example of how the Maltese think about power.

If you are Mr. No-one and would like to achieve some prestige and power in your neighbourhood, all you have to do is to get involved with some others with your same interests and set up a banda committee, or another local committee for some other reason.

Then, you draw up a one-page statute which practically sets out how in an election for the committee you will always be elected as President.

Then you go around claiming that you are the President tal-Kumitat tal-Banda taz-Zigg and everyone will be impressed.

    Even Labour, apparently.

  14. Natasha says:

“and we would be rioting too if we were incarcerated in those abysmal and desperate conditions”

We were close to rioting in the first days of Arriva, let alone if we were locked in those detention centres for months on end.

My thought is that the current situation is the result of mismanagement and gross faults in communication with the immigrants.

We can’t treat them like numbers instead of people. They, like us, have duties but they have rights too – like the right to a dignified life they literally risked their life to reach.

  15. janine says:

Where is this place. It looks so sleazy. Some kind of brothel or what?

    • Kenneth Cassar says:

The clue is in the bottom right corner. And yes, it is sleazy.

      • Kenneth Cassar says:

@ Daphne: I think she meant the picture at the top, and not the picture H.P.Baxxter linked to, so you might wish to remove my previous comment. Sorry for the trouble.

[Daphne – I can’t follow the sequence at this end, but never mind.]

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Privé, Numero Uno, Moscow Club, Level 22, Nordic Bar, Shadow Lounge, Fuego….what’s the difference? You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

You say it’s sleazy. Thing is, sleaze sells.

The average Maltese “zaghzugh” out on the pull makes every effort to project sleaze: vacant expression, half a tub of hair gel, skin-tight shirt, size XXS, over paunch, open to the waist, white belt with gigantic buckle, skin-tight jeans worn two feet below navel, bum clad in maroon shreddies hanging out of jeans, watch the size of a soup plate, swagger, arms rotated forward about shoulder to highlight tiniest bicep development, loud voice, bow-legged walk….

The girls seem to like it, the way they’re all over them.

Like I said, sleaze sells. Like hot two-day old pizza slices from one of the dozens of pizza joints next door to any club.

  16. H.P. Baxxter says:

That’s no brothel. Well, not officially. It’s yet another Virgin White Summer Night at Privé. They’re all the rage. The “virgin” is a nice touch, but it won’t fool anyone.
