Another one who doesn’t have a clue

Another troika pic

Wenzu Mintoff showed he knows even less about political marketing than Jason Micallef does when he told Malta Today last Sunday:

I can’t understand why the Labour leader only appeared on the Nationalist Party’s billboards. There was not a single Labour billboard showing the leader alone or together with the two deputy leaders. This was a total capitulation to the Nationalists’ campaign. We went to such an extreme in accepting the effectiveness of that campaign that we seemed ashamed of showing our own leader.

No, Wenzu. They didn’t hide him because they were ashamed. They hid him because they knew he was the main thing scaring people away from Labour. And while they were hiding their leader, they ran a series of advertisements in the English-language newspapers criticising Lawrence Gonzi for hiding his former ministers.

Not only did the Labour Party keep Sant off the billboards, but they even tried to keep him out of the public eye as much as possible, except for tightly controlled situations in which he would take no questions from the media lest he gave the wrong sort of answer. When he was in a situation that couldn’t be scripted or controlled – the famous university debate, the equally famous encounter with Pullicino Orlando in the PBS studios – disaster ensued.

Nothing to do with elections but quite amusing being in Malta

    @ David

That’s maltastar’s idea of an April Fool’s joke, mate.

IF it is I fell for it hook line and sinker *blush*

In my view even Alfred Griscti , is not some dynamic person suitable to be Secretary General. In his interview in “Illum”, he says he supported Alfred Sant for Leader in 2003, and he was the best prime minister Malta ever had (OMG !!!). He also complains that the Zebbug committee wanted to put up a Billboard with the faces of the candidates, but got no reply from Jason Micallef – Wow that billboard with the facepics would really win over the floating voters !! Enough said what a stategist he is ….

    not about politics…

Did you see the pic of the headmaster of St Augustine’s College speaking to four students ? Two students were slouching like spineless amoebas, the third one with both hands tucked in his blazer pockets , and the fourth seemed to have had a siesta in his uniform ! And this is a pic circulated to the media. At St Edwards we would be “gated” for carrying ourselves so badly, but thats St Edwards ! Schooling is not just an A in math…

    @ Daphne

I think no one really has a clue over there, have a look at this ‘opinion piece’.

What really strikes me about this piece is the true spirit of democracy within MLP. I am starting to believe that the “alahares jitla il-labour” phrase was not an overstatement after all.

I was fond of the old look. To quote another blogger, it was very ‘elegant’. I suppose it was, because I plucked whatever needed to be plucked and started writing in what happens to be the first blog I ever wrote in. I used to stop myself from becoming too affectionate with some things, but there you go!

Back to business. What do you think of this chap who wanted to become Minister of Education with the reception class debacle, and who today wrote this piece, grandly named ‘Into a New Era’ in which he speaks about the Fagiolini and not the era!

  8. Daphne Caruana Galizia says:

@Romegas – the article you mention follows a Labour trend set by the Irrevocably Resigned Leader: throwing a bit of ‘high’ culture into newspaper articles to show what a cut above the rest of us they are. It’s pointless explaining to them that people want to read about politician’s views on politics, and not on what they’ve been reading/listening to the other day.

    @ Romegas

‘fagiolini’ is the operative word here…draw your own conclusions… for those who don’t know italian…fagiolini is beans so…

I like the new format but I sort of miss the latest posted comments that were on the righthand side of the screen…

We hamalli at university have been treated to an interview with you regarding this blog on the InSite paper (InSite is the campus paper). Not bad for a blog that has only been up and running for a bit over a month. Not bad ej? Eat your heart out George Vella!

  12. my name is Leonard but my son calls me Joey says:

@Meerkat – actually means “little beans”. Can still sound impressive

@ my name is Leonard but my son calls me Joey

be they big or small them beans still produce the same results

I think what Karmenu wanted to illustrate by mentioning the Fagiolini was to remind us what we have lost by not electing his party – fledgling artists are not being helped by GonziPN (that’s what he implied at least)
