Eeeeee, ara – Mario Vella has a job
Some of my readers may remember the one-time chairman of the Malta Development Corporation, a man not overly keen on hard work. His is not a famous face, but he pops out of the woodwork once every few years with an article for The Times. I imagine he doesn’t write more of them because they involve work.
The last one I remember was an excruciating hagiography of Alfred Sant and how his large brain was going to carry the day for Labour (nobody in Malta is as intellectual as he is; he’s way above the Nationalist Party and its politicians because his IQ is just so stratospheric; his is the party of intellectuals; he knows many intellectuals and many intellectuals know him; everything he does, says and reads is intellectual).
The most recent one is carried today. It’s called Quantum of Solace (nice one, Mario, but then nobody said intellectuals were imaginative) and it’s about Joseph Muscat and how his big – what? brain? ego? ox? – is going to carry the day for Labour. One year into his five-year term of office, Gonzi is finished. Mario sees all the signs in his world-weary expression and struggling smile. And so Mario is jubilant (but in an intellectual way, of course).
Mario soldiered on at that laptop and added a footnote to his piece, even though other more tempting pursuits like armchair surfing were calling loudly. He told us that he’s editing a blog called watersbroken. I was tempted to post the comment that I always suspected he wasn’t much of a man, but now that his waters have broken I’m convinced. But I saved it for my own blog instead. If you’re wondering about the ruddy stupid name, then stop. It’s intellectual. Folks like you and me wouldn’t get it. I had to log on to find out. Apparently, the previous blog, which dealt with Labour’s post-election traumas, was called labour-in-labour. And now its waters have broken. Golly, Mario – that’s hilarious. You intellectuals really know how to party. I’m holding out for the next blog, stillborn.wordpress.com, unless it turns out to be a spontaneousabortion.wordpress.com. Or how about breechbirth.wordpress.com or caesareansection.wordpress.com or even ohmygodnurseit’samonster.wordpress.com.
Here’s what watersbroken is all about, in the words of Mario Vella the intellectual, who has intellectual friends like Alfred Sant and also other friends like Joseph Muscat.
Intellectually, watersbroken, is the heir of Labour-in-labour[http://labourinlabour.wordpress.com], the unauthorised blog that accompanied the Labour Party’s travailed quest for a new leader after its latest electoral defeat in March of this (2008) year. watersbroken inherits Labour-in-labour’s irreverence towards ossified official party structures (and, let’s face it, structures tends to become rigid and to ossify as soon as they become official). watersbroken also inherits its predecessor’s conviction that, slowly but surely, the day draws near when the majority of even moderately intelligent and moderately creative persons in this country will think twice before identifying themselves unreservedly with the ruling Nationalist Party.

What better name for a Labour blog than one which brings to mind the Labour Ward?
Just read that Labour has announced its list of MEP candidates.
Look Sharon E B is there too!
[Daphne – http://www.independent.com.mt/news.asp?newsitemid=81765 ]
He seems to be over-familiar with the words “rigid” and “ossified”, I wonder why? Is it direct experience?
As for his final comment, I would like to consider myself as “moderately” intelligent and creative, but I just cannot imagine myself voting Labour. I hate to admit it but I vote PN simply to keep Labour out of power. Unless Mario and his boss undertand this they will be “jaghzqu fl-ilma“.
[Daphne – Mario Vella is just stuck in the years of tie-dye, that’s all. He’s never moved on from the thinking and language of his student days. It doesn’t occur to him for one minute that the world has moved on – without him – and that he is now very much part of the ossified generation.]
how about ‘thisisdefinitelynotmine.wordpress.com’
all I can say is: ‘What were they thinking?’
[Daphne – Or: IwantaDNAtestandadivorce.wordpress.com. Or even better: thatsnotmineitlookslikemariovella.wordpress.com]
Ooh, the previous blog was “unauthorized”! And this one too? How daring!
[Daphne – Yes, pathetic, especially when you consider that Joseph Muscat was his protege.]
If the personification of intellectualism lies in Mario (Communist Party) Vella, then ignorance is bliss. By the way, this is – honestly – the first and maybe last time I exalted ignorance in my lifetime; but given the reason, I believe I’m allowed to do so for once. just this once.
Daphne……you’re soooo funny!!! Keep it up….you had me in stiches!

The Times’ postings are even funnier. They’ve got some of those sillier comments Daphne loves so much to reproduce here.
Here they are, have a laugh:

@Daphne – “He told us that he’s editing a blog called watersbroken.”
Is his blog moderated by an ox?
Hasra he never came up with a blog while Labour was getting screwed by its intellectuals…had he noticed it before he would save himself and Labour from labour and breaking waters..I’m really not looking forward to the pubic era blogs by the way…However,..labourisgettinglaid.wordpress.com would have made headlines.

So I see there is a Kev imposter, but Daphne doesn’t seem to mind so it must be okay.
[Daphne – Thanks for pointing that out. Whoever it was used a close approximation of your email address too, but now that you’ve brought it up I checked the IP number and it isn’t yours. So I’ve changed his name to Not Kev.]
Tnx, Daphne. Must be a fan. Excuse my snide.
Not Kev and all – This is even funnier:
