We've been ungrateful

Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, quoted in an interview in The Sunday Times today:
“I think the country has been ungrateful to Mr Mintoff…He built a nation, taught people to stand on their own two feet, and eradicated a servile attitude.”
Well, it would have been interesting if he’d taught us to stand on our own three feet, but never mind. As for eradicating the servile attitude, that’s for sure – the trouble is that we’ve got a bolshie, bitter, resentful, envious and jekk m’ghandix attitude instead. And that certainly doesn’t sell a lot of chips, does it?

If there’s any truth in what Dr Mifsud Bonnici is saying, then this is rather bizarre considering that Mr Mintoff managed to appease both sides of the Maltese political divide – a Labour PM for many years and PN’s EU agent by proxy.
What’s with this guy? Reminds me of the nurse in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. Guess you’re too young, Daphne, to remember Nurse Ratchet. Think she has returned in the image of this ‘has been’ or ‘never was’. Sad.
Happy ‘new year’ of the ox to all.
Apparently the servile attitude was not eradicated from…. KMB himself. Every time he opens his mouth, he talks about nothing but to excuse or justify Mintoff and his actions.
I think Mintoff did the opposite, unless KMB thinks Il-Korpi taught us to stand on our own feet or that choking-gas was building a nation. The Germans might as well make Hitler a hero for building the autobahns.
