FAA did comment about Dock No. 1 – to praise the project and persuade the government to shell out for a car-park
Somebody sent in this information.
This is what FAA had to say about Dock No 1 project (15th August 2007): “Recognising this as a 21st century development, we envision a blend of modern and traditional architecture as providing the opportunity to highlight Malta’s heritage while creating a modern and vibrant development complex. ……….. Aspects of the financing such as the community and social programmes associated with this development as well as the car parks that serve the resident population, can be appropriately shared between the developer and the State.”
It wasn’t so much that Astrid Vella and Paul Cardona didn’t object to the plans or have anything negative to say about them. How could they, when he was the applicant for the project? No, they didn’t even have the good grace to keep quiet and stop there. They spoke out IN FAVOUR of the project without the decency to inform the public that FAA’s chairman was the applicant/developer. And what’s more, Mrs Vella called on the government to part-finance the car park.
It would be disingenuous of her to suggest at this late stage that she didn’t know her chairman was the applicant.

If P. Cardona is the one I think he is, then he’s set to make money out of it in more ways than one, given that he is – if I am not mistaken – a marine engineer and a marine surveyor.
Astrid Vella and Paul Cardona have been keeping these facts hidden for more than a year. Will they resign from FAA, now that at least one of their conflicts of interest (there might be others) has been exposed?
Let me answer my own question: not a chance.
Daphne ,
FAA are quoting Mr Dun Monroe as an authoritative source: he works full time as a guide and wrote his book on the marble decoration inside the cathedral in his spare time.
