The wisdom of The People (2)
“I am certain that I’ve signed at least two petitions against this ridiculous proposal. I am behind Astrid Vella and her suggestion that instead of endangering our beautiful cathedral we should restore other palazzi both in Valletta and beyond and use them as museums. I don’t give a crumb as to what Impact Assessment Reports say about these matters on the whole – not unless I know who has written them, how much they were paid, the father, brother, sister, grandfather and so on of those who have written them….I am beginning to think they are just another excuse to give a job to friends of friends, generally speaking. This extension idea should be abandoned immediately. We should restore beautiful buildings which are falling apart and save them from complete extinction and not indulge in expenses we cannot afford, to humour goodness knows who.”

Oh my God, so now the EIA consultants have to be approved by none other than la creme de la creme Marie Benoit for them to be credible…. I tell you D, these people are their own worst enemy. I say elect her as the new chairman of FAA.
That is rich…I suppose that La Benoit thinks rubbish of people like Dr. George Vella’s brother, whose professional scientific opinion has been used many times for official studies and who, I know, would never compromise his scientific credentials in the same way Ms Benoit compromises her journalistic ones.
Is Marie Benoit a journalist and an opinion maker?! No wonder she’s all out for FAA.
I don’t give a shredded wheat.
I have always found it fascinating that Queen Marie is such a vociferous supporter of the Labour Party, and yet, on Sundays puts on the ‘airs’ of a member of the royal family.
This champagne socialist sees nothing wrong with all the stupidities of the Labour Party but sees red when there are sound proposals from the Nationalist Party in government.
Because presumably Marie got her job at The Malta Independent on merit, right?
[Daphne – Bingo. Even she isn’t fool enough to think so. I don’t think she’s been retained for eight years past official retirement age because of merit, either, but let’s not go into that or I might say something I shouldn’t. If I were in her position, I would sit tight, be quiet and be good. But it takes a certain degree of reprehensible arrogance to throw your weight around when you’re in that position. When I worked for my father’s business, he made a point of telling me that I had to be a model employee and God forbid I should ever be thought by others to be taking advantage of my position. Clearly, others don’t see things the same way, and they interpret job security as a licence to do the sort of things that would have got others sacked a long, long time ago – and, in fact, did get others sacked.]
It’s amusing how Mrs Benoit who claims to have travelled all round the globe, met and mingled with all sorts, has remained so restricted in her mindset.
Incidentally, I love these new elfin buzzwords, “palzzo”, “palazzos” and “palazzi”. As if they know what they’re talking about.

Or as Del Boy Trotter would say ” la creme de la menthe” :)
Marku, if I am not mistaken, Marie’s brother is chairman of Standard Publications, which publishes The Malta Independent.
Harry Purdie – That’s the “problem” with her. She’s such an u-l-t-r-a stuck-up twit, and yet she tries to curry favour with those she looks down on in private.
I don’t know. She seems quite nice. Once she phoned me by mistake because “she was trying to phone a number in her daughter’s telephone directory.” Which was nice. [Patrick Nice voice]
