That twerp James Tyrrell, again
James Tyrrell, friend of Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar and AD Gozo, keeps reminding us that he’s “only a tourist”. Methinks he protests too much. I can’t imagine why a tourist would want to spend all his time on the internet, campaigning against EU membership for Malta as far back as seven years ago, and now campaigning against various projects.
I know life in Gozo is deadly dull, and I won’t mention the entertainment value of chickens and goats again lest I stand accused of encouraging bestiality, but perhaps he should move his holiday home to somewhere more congenial, like the Australian outback, where he will not find much to upset him.
Hilariously, the gutless man still won’t admit on any public forum that he was one of the Labour Party’s foreign elves busily writing letters to the newspapers, in those pre-on-line days, warning Malta of the gross dangers of EU membership. Maybe he’s too embarrassed to be seen for the prat he was (and still is)?
I enjoyed this particular exchange on timesofmalta.com.
James A. Tyrrell
As for the calm and reasoned debate that was missed out on do you really think there would have been anything calm and reasoned about it considering the amount of money that was being offered to play with? I may be a tourist but I’ve seen the way things work in Malta and the ones who usually win out in the end are the developers. Thankfully this time round the people won.D Vella
Wouldn’t you like to take up permanent residence?J. Martinelli
FAA and the LP prevented dialogue between qualified people, the necessary EIA and the final resolution on whether the project would have had any detriment to St. John’s. But then the LP always did things in a hurry and made policies on the run as amply demonstrated in the St. John’s saga by jumping on FAA’s bandwagon. Returning to power is their only concern.James A. Tyrrell
Surely returning to power is the only concern of any political party or am I missing something? The bandwagon you refer to by the way was the people’s bandwagon not FAA’s. FAA simply brought the matter to the attention of the public when the Foundation tried to sneak the application through just prior to the election. It’s common knowledge that if you are a big developer in Malta with plenty of clout, friends in high places and money you can get most developments pushed through. Look what almost happened at Mistra? If you are an ordinary little Joe public, no clout, no big friends, no money behind you then you have little chance.Antoine Vella
Tyrrell: “Thankfully this time round the people won.” The other time I remember the people won was when we voted overwhelmingly to join the EU and gave you one of the sorriest moments of your life. You’re never forgiven Malta, have you?James A. Tyrrell
You seem to be fixated with your membership of the EU. Why? At the moment far from being in the black Malta is running at a loss of €12.6 million on EU membership.Antoine Vella
J.A. Tyrrell,
It’s obvious you have no clue of the importance of EU membership for Malta. Perhaps that is why you did your utmost to keep us out; you’re ashamed to admit it but we all know about your antics.

I posted a reply to James Tyrell but he’s probably got too many comments on his hands and may miss it. I’m posting it here as I know he doesn’t ever visit this site and never reads the comments here. Perhaps someone who knows him can forward the information to him? It would be terribly kind to put him out of his misery by disabusing him of his latest bugbear.
James Tyrell “At the moment far from being in the black Malta is running at a loss of €12.6 million on EU membership.”
You need to fact in a time lag. That figure is calculated on the basis of a statement issued by the Labour Party. Partisan sources are not necessarily devious and unreliable, but in the face of evidence to the contrary they should be questioned. rather than taken at face value. In the meantime here’s what was said by someone who is regularly involved in applying for EU structural funds. The information appeared in a comment posted elsewhere on this site:
“The EU, especially in the structural funds programme – pays through a system of reimbursement. For the 2004-2006 programme, the projects started in January 2005, most had a 6-12 month extension with the majority of the refunds being processed in 2008 and 2009.
For the 2007-2013 – the projects, though assigned and initiated, are at the initial stages with the first letter of offers being signed during the last quarter of 2008. It is envisaged that around 50% of the 300M Euro already assigned shall be utlisied during 2009, with reimbusements happening in 2010.
A part of my last response to Tyrell was left out. It was something along the lines of: Why don’t you cut your blarney and go hide behind a pot of gold you spiteful little leprechaun?
When commenting on another story he had just told someone to go crawl under a stone and that was acceptable but calling him a leprechaun was too strong, apparently.
Why do you people bother with that idiot?
Tyrell in the outback! Warning to kangaroos! Don’t bend over!
The case against EU membership still exists, Daphne. The fact that you lack the inner eye to see it does not make it disappear. The “embarrassment” you refer to lies solely in your mind. Try to understand that there are various world views and that yours is one of the simplest forms – just like a worm in the animal kingdom.
[This is a comment you need neither censor, nor delete. But hey, it’s just a click away and it’s tempting – we’re all too human after all.]
[Daphne – You can be very trying, Kevin. And you’re not doing your wife Sharon any favours by writing against EU membership while she’s campaigning to become a Euro-parliamentarian.]

The inner eye? If you are using your ‘inner eye’ to look at the EU, no wonder that what you see is your own personal construct; quite distinct from reality.
Is that how you get your world view? With your inner eye? It must be very complex in there, nothing as simple as a worm. Let me guess….you also have an inner ear to hear the voices in your head.
You have this talent kev: putting yourself in a position to be wound up. Keep it up, this blog lacks a jester.
That’s what your mind tells you, Daphne. But my comment does not bother me, for it does not mean I want to revert to the pre-2003 Malta. No need to get annoyed by it. I can be very trying, yes, but hey, look who’s talking! You’ve been trying for a while now haven’t you :)
