Arnold's leaving on a jet plane – he hopes

Rarely has there been a more appropriate sign up
Well, I must say – this EP election campaign is turning out to be quite entertaining. So many jokers, so little time. Now Arnold Cassola has given us the reason why we should vote for him: to keep him in his jet-set lifestyle, getting on and off planes every week. He used to do that when he was in Brussels and again when he was in Rome (you know, when he decided he was Italian after all, and got himself elected to the Italian parliament). And he wants to carry on doing it.
Unbelievable: vote for me so that I can fly around and feel important.
The university students’ group Insite has put together some mini-interviews with EP candidates. They’re asked to pick an item from a mixed dish of them and tell us why they picked it and what it means in terms of this election. Cassola picked – oh, look! – a plane ticket. Planes have played a large part in his life, he tells us, and he’d like them to carry on doing so. So vote for Arnold so that he can keep flying at someone else’s expense – even though he’s a single, childless man and has no one to spend his money on but himself.
It gets more amusing with each passing day.

if (when) he fails to get elected he can always apply as a trolley dolly with Air Malta – perhaps even on the Brussels route. “We understand that many of you are frequent travellers but we ask you to follow the emergency instructions carefully…” Arnold, your purser.
Should be a member of the Mile High Club by now.
I thought he was a ‘green’. What about his carbon footprint if he is flying around all the time? Hypocrite!
Green my foot – I tell you what “green” politics is: it’s the politics of those “green with envy” towards those left-wingers or right-wingers who have a real ideology, right or wrong: but at least they believe in something. That’s what green politics is.
Green politics is opportunism and the exploitation of the ennui of the bougoisie. That’s what it is.
“I thought he was a ‘green’. What about his carbon footprint if he is flying around all the time? Hypocrite!”
Quoted for posterity
L-ipokrezija ta’ dawn il-Hodor m’ghandiex limitu. Kont nippretendi li wara dan il-paroli kollu fuq il-carbon footprints u li l-klima ser tixwijna hajjin, Arnold kien ikun minn ta’ l-ewwel biex jevita l-ajruplan. Dejjem jista’ jghumha sa l-Italja imbaghad jaqbad rota biex ikompli triqtu. Veru ma jafux jisthu dawn in-nies. Wara kollox, Arnold u l-partit tieghu jemmnu li (u nikwota) –
“The departure tax must be removed. Alternatively we are proposing a carbon tax of Lm10, if the proceeds from this tax are invested in improving public transport.”
“Aviation too should be included in an emission trading scheme.”
Kieku kien ghall-Hodor, ghadna nghixu fl-gherien u nuzaw l-hmar u c-cattra ghat-trasport. Dawn nies li rari kkontribwew xi haga ghal-bniedem u hlief ostakli kontra l-progress u taxxi fuq idejat fazzulli u banali ma hargux bihom.
Issa Sur Cassola, mur ghid lill-gremxula tax-xaghri biex tivvutalek ghax hi gawdiet l-izjed bil-politika taghkhom!
Keep on dreaming, Arnie.
Unfortunately, it appears that Arnold does not fall within the category of married men with children. He is single and childless – so what.
Ahh now I get it. Do VIPs travel in business class?
