Despite my strong academic background and my shop, Joseph Cuschieri beat me to it

I think Austin Gatt might be cracking open a beer at this point. She who told us we were vulgar and arrogant for asking her how she voted in the referendum, and in the general election afterwards, has been pipped at the post by Joseph Cuschieri and John Attard Montalto. So flattering.

Isn’t it sad that all female candidates (whether PN or PL) have been or are being edged out of the race? Whatever the political leanings, we are certainly giving the EU the (possibly correct) impression that the Maltese are chauvinists who still think of politics as solely a man’s job.

    • Jean Azzopardi says:

The female candidates did fairly well in the elections, considering there weren’t many of them to begin with. 4/12 for Labour and 2/10 for PN.

[Daphne – You mean the women? The male candidates, on the other hand, fared marvellously.]

      • P says:

And over 50% of the electorate is female.

[Daphne – No, women make up 50% of the electorate.]

      • Jean Azzopardi says:

What I meant is that the parties did not field an equal amount of women and men. Instead, only 1/3 of Labour’s candidates were women, and only 1/5 of PN’s. Also, they were competing against the men incumbents.

Or perhaps we are indeed chauvinistic pigs :S

I was at the counting hall, and couldn’t help smiling when Marlene walked in at about 11.30 in jeans and trainers (she did not know yet she’d been pipped at the post) talking to one of the Labour agents from the bastjun of Bormla and looking totally out of place among all those tattooed men.

    from:
    http://www1.di-ve.com/

“John Attard Montalto has arrived at the Naxxar counting hall.

Asked by http://www.di-ve.com whether he had won so many votes from Ms Abela Baldacchino because his name was next on the ballot paper, he laughed.

“If it were that easy then I would not have bothered to campaign,” he said.”

Oh. s**t…It would have spared me spending on spatulas…leaving me with more dosh for the cruises.

Marlene might have made it had she splashed out on nappies or bibs.

  4. Tonio Farrugia says:

    Daphne, you’re gloating!

  5. C Cutajar says:

If Marlene believes in karma then she’d feel that her aborted attempt is the result of another candidate’s aborted campaign. Whisper to me gently, Marlene… who’s for what, you said?

  6. Frank says:

This Joseph Cuschieri who is he, what is he made off, why is he getting a seat in the European Parliament? I have hardly heard of the man and know nothing about him except that he gave up his parliamentary seat for Joseph Muscat. I would choose Marlene Mizzi, political inconsistency and all that, any time over such a nonentity.

  7. eric says:

Yes daphne now rejoice cause instead of marlene now you have J.Cuschieri, I hope you’re happy. Women have a nack for destroying each other…..

[Daphne – They’re one of a kind to me, except that one of them can speak English and has social pretensions. She can’t be much brighter than Cuschieri to claim that she voted Yes in the referendum but then for Sant in the general election “because she was convinced that he would come to see the light on Europe.” Il-vera kaz.]

  8. Edward says:

I see the fourth sister is pitching in!

[Daphne – Don’t get too excited, Edward.]

    • Corinne Vella says:

Is there nothing better to do in suburban England than keep tabs on your childhood neighbours?

  9. Edward says:

Daphne, take a defeat with dignity, stop ranting! The world is not coming to an end.

[Daphne – How little you know me. I am enjoying myself enormously, and am completely in my element.]

  10. Nigel says:

Poor woman. Her social pretensions have been dashed beyond recoup. Ah well, she can rejoice in her dissappointment because now she can find much more time to complete her doctorate in corporate governance or whatever. If she’s lucky she might be appointed President of Malta in five years time by Joseph Muscat.

  11. Wenzu says:

Great! So now we have another moron representing us in the EP. Before the last elections we had three; now we have four. A reflection of where the country is heading, I imagine.

  12. Janine says:

Irrespective of what many of you think – I’m actually quite sorry Marlene didn’t make it, as she would have done a much better job than Casa, Cushcieri and that pompous ass Montalto put together.

  13. GonziPN Lover says:

Il-vapur gherqila fl-ahhar. Jekk ghandkom xi problema ibaghtula email.

  14. Nigel says:

If her track record in politics is toresemble her record as chairperson of Sea Malta then it’s best that she was not elected.
Nine years at the helm; seven of them without showing a cent’s profit. What next? Maybe she would have come up with a solution to reduce our deficit with that business record.

  15. Albert says:

Marlene was reported to have said that she is not sure whether to contest another election since her surname does not start with an A, B or C! Well! Once she is a Mizzi and not an Abela, Attard, Aquilina or Arrigo, she might as well use her maiden surname – Cacciatolo!

  16. J says:

As usual the words you hear coming out from the Bidnija witch. Sometimes I wonder and say to myself if you are a Civilized Maltese as much as you say you are, With all those boring rants about your so called life and the hatred which you posses to all the labour people. I suggest you should take a day off and reflect carefully what you have said and what you have done to this date.
