Green credentials? That's hdura, not environmentalism

Oh, these will come in useful when we're next painting en plein air
The eco-warriors in the 143/5 Tower Road war-rooms (and the other ones round the tea-table at Villa Bologna) take pride in their green credentials.
But they don’t know the first thing about real environmentalism.
The strange thing is that AD beat them to it on this one. Oh, but I forgot: Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar have dumped AD as a losing ticket and have tacked themselves onto the Labour bandwagon instead (il-Collation of Change).
The only green I see in that neck of the woods is the green of hdura.
The parliament building is meant to be a zero CO2 emission design, making use of natural lighting, energy-saving technology, heating and cooling processes – something which alone would help save millions of euros in the long run, unlike Astrid Vella’s fabled palazzo which is her solution for housing anything and everything.
That building is going to be a first for Malta – and, if we really have to be petty, Gozo and Comino too – yet Astrid Vella hasn’t a word to say on the subject. She’s missed the detail completely.
The woman is way out of her depth, and the reason she sticks to Super One is because they’re not going to challenge her.
Il-vera ma tifhimx sahta – and her links with Labour are not going to help her on this score, because that lot know sweet Fanny Adams about environmental issues, and canvassing the opinion of The People, who know even less, is going to leave them up sh*t creek without that paddle.

I hope Astrid doesn’t campaign against the CO2 tax for warming up the whole solar system.
Those scientists who were saying the earth is now cooling, were proved wrong with the recent heatwave in Europe.
“Have the climate change deniers abandoned us during the heatwave?” asks Greenhouse-effect-global-warming-climate-change guru George Monbiot http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/georgemonbiot/2009/jun/29/climate-change-scepticism-heatwave?commentpage=2
But happy times are ahead. The EU is liberalising fruit & vegetables. How sweet & green of them.

Go to Super One and watch their version of Hardtalk with Joseph and Stephen Sackur both wearing boots – how crass….
The following is an interesting comment from the Chairman of the FAA: “We cannot rely on well-meaning but non-professional people anymore.” (This was referred to in a comment under the” L-aqwa li teqred u tmeri: is Astrid lying or does she have short-term memory loss?” post).
So that is what they have been doing all along; taking positions on the basis of “the word of well-meaning but unprofessional people”. This is what they did in the cases of Ghar il-Lembi, Ramla l-Hamra and St. Johns Co-Cathedral. FAA failed to learn from their past mistakes. They got it spectacularly wrong in the case of the Qormi armoury where they identified the wrong building.
FAA have taken this approach to extremes with Astrid consistently taking the we-know-it-all and we-are-the-people attitude.
I am not sure what the context to this FAA statement is but to my mind it is an implicit admission that, more often than not, FAA got it wrong.
Is it hdura, is it the tendency to lie and manipulate to get one’s way or is it just plain stupidity? I think it is a mix of all three.
AD beat FAA to what? Sorry for being thick but didn’t quite get it.
[Daphne – AD issued a statement on the Renzo Piano plans within hours. FAA hasn’t yet, and I suspect never will, despite all the campaigning over the last few months.]
Of course, irrespective of whether you agree on a party’s stance or not it is easier being a chattering NGO than sticking your neck out in elections especially here in Malta with the total domination of PLPN.
[Daphne – You’ve got to keep up. The total domination is now PLAD. It’s called the Collation of Change. All AD’s support has deserted it for Labour.]
Look whose turn it is to crawl out of the woodwork and give us his enlightened views:

Is it me, or is Josie uncannily sounding more and more like the Mintoff of old: “Nissikkaw ic-cintorin u hallikom minn dan n*jk!”
