This just about says it all

Blah blah blah blah
This is from a letter in The Times today – a letter, if you please, and not a cracked comment from timesofmalta.com.
I think it pretty much encapsulates the attitude problem of those who think of themselves as The People: ‘I know nothing. But still I want to say something, because I have a right to do so. Going to Valletta every day qualifies me to pass judgement on the architectural merits of Renzo Piano.’
Lie down and weep? How about bang your head against the wall and scream?
“From the onset I would like to state that I do not consider myself to be in any way artistic or knowledgeable when it comes to architecture modern or otherwise, notwithstanding, as a Maltese citizen who frequents our city on a daily basis, I feel I do not only have the right but feel obliged to air my views on the subject.”

It’s funny how when someone starts with a disclaimer like that you know that what follows is going to be logically incoherent, sentimentally subjective and self-righteous, precluding any rejoinder based on evidence, facts and logic.
There’s a parallel, there, with the usual “I’m not racist, but …”
And you should see what views he had to ‘air’. I would like to know from where he gets the right and obligation to talk about something that he knows nothing about. There is only one thing that he should do in such a case, and that is to shut up and listen. Daphne, you might want to make a top 10 list of the most ridiculous objections to the project as brought up by the ‘people’. Now they are finding the proposed entrance too narrow for their pastizzi-filled posteriors to get through.
I have just had the opportunity to visit the Renzo Piano plans in Valletta. Fantastic……………..I can consider myself as completely ignorant where architecture is concerned, however as a lover of the arts and all that is beautiful I believe that waiting for the project to be initiated has been worth it
If he or she does not consider him/herself knowledgeable about architecture of any form why did they blab about in the first place?
Can just imagine il-Perit cutting in with one of his “U int f’hiex iz-z**b tifhem”.
