Just when I was looking for a suitable photograph to accompany this charming comment (read further down) which just came in from Ronnie Pellegrini’s daughter, PING went my in-box and by some extraordinary coincidence, there it was.
Somebody had sent me a picture taken at a debate organised by Alternattiva Demokratika and held in Freedom Square in 1990 or thereabouts.
I was there in the audience.
The debate was between Wenzu Mintoff, who had just left the Labour Party and joined AD, and Lorry Sant. Georg Sapiano was chair.
This was before the ‘Affaire Brown Envelope’, when Lorry Sant placed on the table of the house a packet which, he said, contained compromising photographs of interest to Wenzu Mintoff, leading to a certain measure of chaos in parliament.
Anyway, the debate in Freedom Square was made up mainly of shouting and insults, as can be expected. Lorry Sant waved papers about – as you can see in the picture – while his keyring and sidekick Ronnie Pellegrini alternated between looking bored (when big words were used) and jumping around like a chimp when things took a turn that he understood – Lorry shouting, for instance, or Lorry issuing Big Threats.
Which brings me back to the comment which his daughter (a grown woman, incidentally) posted on this blog, objecting to the use of a photograph taken from her Facebook thingie.
Dear Ms. Caruana Galizia. You of all people should know that STEALING OTHER PEOPLE’S PROPERTY is against the law i.e. being a lawyer and all.
How dare you publish something which is MY PERSONAL PROPERTY WITHOUT MY CONSENT!! This is invasion of privacy you know that don’t you?!
I would like to know how you managed to get into my facebook page and photos!? Maybe one of your little sneaky PN rats are doing the dirty work for you?!

Well, Daniela – it’s nice to see that there’s been some evolution of the species here. You tell me that I’ll be hearing from your lawyers (terrifying). Your father would have fixed things with some of his fellow Lorry Sant thugs.
I can’t imagine where you got the idea that I’m a lawyer when half the country knows what I do for a living.
I didn’t steal your photograph. It’s still where you left it, on your Facebook profile. If you don’t want other people copying your photographs, then don’t upload them onto the internet. You can’t control the internet. If I don’t copy your photographs, other people will. The difference is that with this blog, you’ll know that your photographs have been copied. But for all you know, a hundred other people might have copied your pictures too, used them for their own private purposes, and you will never know about it.
How did I manage to get into your Facebook page? I didn’t. Others did – and not one other, but several. Facebook pages are not Fort Knox. Any one of your listed friends can get in, and so can friends of those friends. When something like this happens, it teaches you that it is really impossible to have 400 friends because 390 of them will turn out to be anything but.
‘Sneaky little PN rats’- it never occurred to me that rats might have a vote. I’ll begin looking at them with new eyes.
‘Who the hell do you think you are?’ – I never bothered to think about it, but according to Maltastar I’m the Blowsy Bidnija Blogger and the Bidnija Witch. Obviously, they are endlessly fascinated by my choice of home. Had I chosen the next hill but one – dammit – they would have a name with a nice ring to it – the Wardija Witch – but that would have put paid to the Bidnija Blogger.
I have never said anything about your father’s sexual activities. I had no idea he had any.
‘Get a life of your own’ – any more life and I’ll be sleeping for two hours a night instead of the current five.
‘How dare you drag family members…’: just to put you straight, Daniela – I may know nothing about your father’s sexual activities and they fail to interest me. But I do know rather a lot about his internet activities, which are more public. They tend to involve quite a lot of slander to various members of my extended family. So if I were you, I’d put a little rocket under him next time you meet for supper before I do it to him myself. And I will resist the temptation to say that perhaps he’ll enjoy it.
I look forward to hearing from your lawyers, particularly because I am interested in knowing how they plan to instruct me to return a virtual image.
P.S. Tell your father that the next time he comes to court to support Magistrate Herrera, daughter of Judge Herrera, friend of his late boss Lorry Sant, he should wear a dark suit rather than a cream one with a softly glowing pale gold tie. And he should wear risers in his shoes to help him get a good look through the little glass windows when he’s thrown out because he hasn’t managed to squeeze in next to Miss Micallef because my sister got there first.

Is this Daniela telling us that her father has ‘sexual activities’ but we have no right to discuss them? Or is she denying that he has ‘sexual activities’?
The way these people write it’s hard to work out what they’re trying to say.
Well no surprise there, coming from a family who supported those who tried to close down schools in the 80s. But then again pole dancing might be more her scene.

While John Attard Montaldo was in Madagascar, Joseph Muscat and his bunch of MEPs failed to secure support from the European Socialists on the Frontex vote yesterday, notwithstanding the relentless efforts of the EPP group to stop the new set of regulations for Frontex.
The Frontex vote passed with only 33 votes from the Socialists, and now Malta is prejudiced.
