Gary Glitter wants to be in OUR gang
Gary Glitter, the 1970s pop star and 1990s convicted paedophile, has become a Catholic (not). He thinks that Catholicism ‘gets his way of life’ because the system protects people like him.
From a spoof newspaper report on newsarse.com:
“Glitter explained to waiting reporters, “I’ve never really been a religious man, because I’ve never before felt that religion really gets my way of life and who I am.”
“But now, I realise what I’ve been missing: the peace, the love, and – above all – the no-questions-asked protection the Catholic Church can offer.”
Glitter, who sought refuge in Asia following discovery of his extensive child pornography collection in 1999, also took time out from the baptism ceremony to formally confirm details of an upcoming comeback tour.
“Having been off the tour circuit for a while, a comeback is long overdue. I’m thinking Germany, Ireland, Austria, Italy, Malta and the US before ending with a spectacular finale in Vatican City.”
“From what I’ve read, I think I’ll be welcomed with open arms, not least by the leaders of my new faith. Pope Benedict – I definitely want to be in YOUR gang,” concluded Glitter.”

For all his faults (what’s wrong with teaching English to 12 year-old girls?) his music – the singles, at any rate – pretty much defined the early 70s for me.
“and – above all – the no-questions-asked protection the Catholic Church can offer.”
Images of magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera in the Duluri march spring to mind.
I feel the “Glitter” thing is not really necessary – or am I missing something?
If only you do the 000.00001% of what the catholic church does in favour of the poor, the sick and the homeless, the unwanted babies, etc., then yes, I will accept your criticism of the catholic church. But being birds without brains, you are in no position to teach anything to anyone.
The good that Catholic Church does is tarnished by the undercurrents of abuse and the cover-ups that follow. Teaching does not require a holy book or a set of rules. Teaching is, in essence, the passing on of knowledge and experience. All you need is an interested listener and a good teacher. A 2000-year track record of war mongering, discrimination and hypocrisy are optional.
You might like to read the article written by by George Weigel in Newsweek of the 3rd of April 2010 which shows how the horrendous crime of paedophilia is a global plague rampant in many secular institutions and , most frighteningly of all, even within what should be the safest place on earth- the family home. Paedophilia is most certainly NOT a predominantly Catholic problem as it is being made out to be most unjustly by the media.
But of course attack is the better form of defence and the secular world has long promoted a culture of anything goes in the sexual order : sex before eight before it`s too late, how one shouldn`t repress one`s natural feelings and instincts ; how evil and oppressive the Church is in its teachings on sexuality ; how man`s innate nature is essentially no different from that of a baboon and so on and so forth.
Now various exponents of these theories are hypocritically throwing up their hands in mock horror because a few priests and religious – a minuscule minority – have brought disgrace and shame upon themselves precisely because they preferred to follow the ways of the world rather than the age –old sound and sane teachings of the Church.
I suppose had these priests and religious been a Michael Jackson or a Roman Polanski or a Gary Glitter, these same exponents would have been bending over backwards to excuse them- if not outright condoning them – and oh by the way, no doubt about it, would have been accusing the Catholic Church of outdated, intolerant and oppressive teachings .
If you’re referring to what the Catholic Church donates in cash – assuming that it donates a billion euros every year, .00001% of 1 billion is a 100 Euro.
I guess most of us do donate a 100 euro annually in some way or another. You’re gonna have to take all the criticism, mate (or get your maths right).
irony at its best!
These days the Catholic Church is taking far harsher measures against priests caught molesting children. Fortunately or unfortunately, once it has dealt with the culprit it doesn’t publish the details.
Meanwhile let us not forget that Roman Catholic priests are not the only group among which paedophiles lurk. In twenty years of work with children I have come across many, many instances of children being molested by uncles, fathers, grandfathers, mothers (rare but it happens) and family friends and neighbours. My conclusion for parents is simply NEVER trust your children with anyone and be on the alert if they return home withdrawn and miserable or if they appear reluctant to be left alone with a carer.
Anglu Farrugia used to be a great fan of Gary Glitter back in the 70s. He used to be his idol.
Who does not commit an error let him throw the first stone.
[Daphne – Hands up all those who have molested children. Right. Now don’t throw the first stone. And remember, it was an ‘error’.]
or just “petty gossip”

“To be connected with the church is to be associated with scoundrels, warmongers, fakes, child-molesters, murderers, adulterers and hypocrites of every description.
It also, at the same time, identifies you with saints and the finest persons of heroic soul of every time, country, race, and gender.
To be a member of the church is to carry the mantle of both the worst sin and the finest heroism of soul because the church always looks exactly as it looked at the original crucifixion, God hung among thieves.”

The church are interested in saving your soul, not your arsehole.

It seems you’ve become a regular here. That’s one in the eye for those who think everyone here is related to Daphne.
