James Tyrrell – he DOES have a vote

James Tyrrell has got himself one of these at last - and so has Mrs Tyrrell

My, my, that James Tyrrell is a bit of a dark horse. The Government Gazette of 23 October last reveals that he and his wife Christine Margaret (yes, he has one, and she has neither cloven hooves nor a beard) became naturalised Maltese citizens on 7 August last year.

In the next general election, Tyrrell and Mrs Tyrrell will be voting – Labour, of course. And for Astrid Vella, if she accepts Labour’s invitation to stand on their ticket, though they’ll have to move to Sliema.

Well, that explains his obsessive interest in Maltese politics and all the campaigning to get us to vote No in the referendum. What it doesn’t explain, of course, is why Tyrrell insists on giving his address as County Antrim, describing himself as ‘only a tourist’, saying he has no vote, and – the biggest question of all – why he ran away to Malta in the first place.

Now we have to find out what his links are to Labour, and we’re sorted.

Dark horse? Zimel ta’Trojja. Tal-Labour poggewh Ghawdex biex jaqliba l-Giovanna. Dawn il-kummenti u indhil ta’ Tyrrell f’kull toqba li jara issa jidru li ma huma xejn hlief biex jghamel pjazza ghal-meta johrog mal-PL fl-elezzjoni li tmiss.

Interesting – he is probably running away from N. Ireland as it’s not anymore to his liking.

    • Peter says:

Being Maltese and a retired British Army officer who served in N. Ireland during the 70s and 80s, and now that N. Ireland has embraced democracy and the extreme protestant ‘B’ Specials within the RUC can no longer terrorise the Catholic population ……..

  3. La Redoute says:

Maltastar reports that the goat population is in decline but accompanies the report with a picture of a sheep.

Maybe Mr Tyrrell is a shepherd who has decided to invest considerable resources into shepherding the Maltese flock, with a little bit of help from his friends?

  4. c agius says:

Does he pay taxes in Malta?

    • Paul Bonnici says:

Having a Maltese passport does not mean you have to pay tax in Malta unless you are resident in Malta and working.

Having a Maltese passport does not entitle you to vote unless you have been resident in Malta 6 months prior to the election.

I have been abroad for 30 years and I am not on the electoral register, yet I know of Labour voters resident in the UK who travelled to Malta to vote and like myself, they are not entitled to vote.

      • c agius says:

        @ Paul Bonnici
I don’t agree with you there. I know of a couple who DO pay tax in Malta on their British pension and they have been residing here for more than 10 years and they are able to vote both for the Local Council and the General Election.
The only thing that differs from the one who writes on this blog is that they DO NOT MEDDLE in the way things run in Malta.

      • Paul Bonnici says:

        @ c agius

The couple you mention are resident in Malta and they pay tax and are registered to vote, which is correct.

I am Maltese, left Malta 30 years ago and I don’t pay tax in Malta nor have the right to vote.

When I renewed my ID card three years ago they told me that I cannot be entered in the electoral register because I do not reside in Malta.

  6. Gahan says:

What did Gozo do to deserve all this! Does he know our national anthem?

  7. Rover says:

Shhhhh don’t tell him. He’s only Irish. He thinks he’ll be voting for Gordon Brown.

    • Christian says:

      Please folks,
Stop calling him Irish. Call him a Brit, a black bastard, a Prod, anything but Irish. There are Irish people interested in this blog, and they are quite offended.

  8. H.P. Baxxter says:

    Mela mhux bil-bajometriks tieghu?

    • Charlie Bates says:

How long ago has he had this passport and on what grounds was he given one? I agree with Mr. Baxxter. I got my passport last week and it has the biometric data insignia, easily seen on the front page. The only positive thing to come out of this passport in the hands of this Ulsterman is that Unjoni Ewropea is printed on it.

Perfectly in agreement with your observation – I had the same thought when I saw it on PBS last night. Never seen a Chinese person sitting that way. They always sit with both feet touching the ground.

  11. Brian says:

I tried to ask why Tyrrell ’emigrated’ to Malta, yet you seem to have rebutted my comment. Is it because I told him to go and piss up a rope, or….

[Daphne – There are different ways of putting things.]

  12. Bus Driver says:

How come James Tyrell has missed out on this golden opportunity to put his viewpoint on this, directly and where it matters, by placing a comment on this blog? It is clear that James Tyrell has gone the way of ASTrid: heaps of war cries, but then dodging the actual battle. All bark and no bite: typical of PL members and PL supporters.

  13. La Redoute says:

In Maltastar’s terms, he hasn’t denied this, so it must be true.

  14. Gerry Adamms says:

He’s afraid that he will be shown for what he really is: a yellow dastardly mutton, through and through.

  15. SSA says:

James A. Tyrrell wants a job in Gozo. You can drop him a line, but he doesn’t say where.

    James A. Tyrrell (81.174.212.200) –

Hi there. I’ve been to Gozo several times now and I’m returning in October this year. I live and work at present in N. Ireland. I’m in my early fifties and have worked in various sectors including sales and the police. At present I’m employed in a local factory which is a subsidiary of the American company Caterpillar. My ambition is to live and work in Gozo as I love the little island. I would consider any type of work and would not consider anything too much of a challenge. I’ve been a member of British Mensa so I can pick most things up fairly quickly.

Drop me a line if you require a copy of my CV.

And here I was thinking I’m the only one annoyed by this man.
