Last night’s screaming and shouting in parliament
Too bad the noise from the Opposition benches is so loud that we can’t work out whether Jose Herrera was actually yelling “F’gh*xx Tonio Borg”.
So much for the mittilkless lifestyle, the sjuts and keRRRjeRRRs and Alfas and safar and villel. They sound like a mob of rioting peasants.
I’m surprised no one thought to firebomb the speaker’s chair.
Qabda hamalli u slavagg. And yes, I mean that.
Imbasta bil-politics of unity, all our tomorrows u give peace a cens. Joseph Muscat’s New Way of Doing Politics – it’s a laugh a minute and it looks to me no different to the old way.
It might even be a regression to the pre-Sant days. Is that Joe Debono Grech I hear screaming and yelling? Jaqaw ma semaghx bil-politics of unity ta’ sidu?

PROGRESSIVI U MODERATI (sorry for the caps)
Waqt li l-Kunsill ta’ Malta jitbaqbaq dwar ic-cucati, id-decizjonijiet li jolqtuna l-aktar qed jittiehdu fi Brussell, Strasburgu u bnadi ohra.
Il-pulcinelli fil-Kunsill jippreferu joholqu spettaklu parrokjali milli jiddiskutu politika serja li llum saret ezoterika ghalihom.
Pulcinelli. Kollha kemm huma. M’hemmx x’taghzel.
A case of past present future …. anyone remebers this year’s AGM of KSU where Pulse members walked out of the meeting …. mamma mia … the same here!
Ara vera spicca il-Labour. Vera qabda hamalli w injoranti. Kif tista tghid li irbaht int f’nofs votazjoni? Mela hekk messu ghamel Cameron.
Actually I was hoping it was getting better, but it seems that we’re back to same old Labour.
BACK to same old Labour? As if they ever changed! As the Maltese saying goes, “bzar fl-ghajnejn”.
taf ghalix qed tparlaw ekk u ghax kuntenti fil koruzjoni tajdu li demokristjani jew ahjar antidemokrzija u mux kristjani ta imma kollox barra kristjani ghax tliftu il boxla ta xinhuma valuri socjali u humani.
There is something about the Delimara power station that irritates the MLP so badly. I have not figured it out yet. I remember that during the 1992 general election campaign, when the power station was being built, during one of the numerous protests in Delimara (“LE ghall-power station”), KMB promised the MLP voters that once elected he will dismantle it (“inhottuha gebla gebla”). Now, 18 years later we are back to the same old, same old.
It’s like they collectively metamorphosized into Joe Debono Grech.
Danny Cremona, Lorry Sant, Joe Grima and others come to mind.
Il-Partit Laburista ghandu bzonnu lil-Debono Grech. Ghal episodji bhal dawn.
Wannabe EFA? In his dreams …
Wannabe Obama. Nobel Peace Prize. With Love and kisses.
Who is advising the Leader of the Opposition now? Was this ruckus the failed drama that he and his ilk wanted to put on display on national television?
Just listening to the tapes gave me the shivers.
Those screaming, swearing, Joe Debono Grech-like voices revived horrible memories I would never ever want visited again on this generation.
Those scenes are still encrusted in the subconscious of people my age, who witnessed them almost on a daily basis in the early 1980s.
It was not good PR to bring those scenes back.
The riff-raff are back and giving us a taste of what is to come. I hope we will never say that we deserve the PL in government.
I congratulate the Prime Minister who did not even entertain these spoiled brats with a word.
Who is advising the Leader of the Opposition now?
“Marisa Micallef, the former chairman of the Housing Authority, has been appointed a strategy adviser to Labour leader Joseph Muscat, The Sunday Times reports today.
She joins a small team of consultants reporting directly to Dr Muscat. Her main role will be to help convert voters who never considered Labour.
In the past, Ms Micallef used to be criticised by Labour for writing pro-PN political articles while chairing a public entity.
Asked by The Sunday Times for its comments, the PL said the ‘past was past’ and it meant business when it said it was building a new movement.”
Sunday Times 27th September 2009
Everybody please note, you have just heard your future prime minister and his parliamentary cronies in action. Dak gvern to be proud of, mela Gonzipn!
Empty vessels make the most noise and that’s what they are. They walked out because they don’t belong there.
What a mortifying and degrading performance in our highest institution!
Tghid qamu mahnuqin? Il-veru kas fejn huma il-hamalli.
Veru gab bidla, Joseph, imma certament ghall-aghar. Agir tal-misthija. Dnub mhux video – kellhom ghal-fejn jinsistut biex juru d-dibattitu fuq TVM – kienu johorgu ta nies, hej.
Il-partit laburista, kemm jekk Malta Labour Party, kemm jekk Partit tal-Haddiem, kemm jekk Partit Laburista, kien, baqa’, ghadhu, u jibqa sahta fuq pajjizna.
Partit tal-laqx u bulljar ma jista jittratta xejn hlief izjed laqx. Ma jistghax jingabar.
Is-sitwazzjoni wara Alfred Sant jidher illi saret aghar. Taht Alfred Sant, konna nibzghu minn Alfred Sant, ghax ma kontx tista’ tikkwantifikah.
Taht Joseph Muscat, tibza’ mil-Partit Laburista, ghax ma jidhirx illi ghandu kontroll fuq il-Partit, u rega gab lura “fi hdan il-Partit” l-imbarazz kollu li kien hemm fil-passat. Mhux biss gabhom lura, imma joqghod jitghannaq u jitbewwes maghhom.
Il-problemi tal-Partit Laburista huma fil-fond tal-partit. Fil-grass roots – il-generazzjoni ta’ nies li “jimmilitaw” fl-istrutturi tal-partit.
Bdabat progressivi u moderati issibhom l-Ghammieri. Fil-Parlament Malti l-bdabat ghadhom fil-medjuevu.
Geez..haven’t heard that for a long, long time, give or take 30 years. Is that what we have to re-live or rather what would be in store for us if the L.P. had to govern Malta in the future? Instead of gaining mileage on the P.N.’s screw-up, Labour has shot itself in the foot again.
Laqqas temmen jekk ma’ tismax
X’ezempju lill-poplu!
An MP who is incapable of voting for or against should resign immediately. Especially when voting in such a tense and crucial vote. I’m surprised Hon Mario Galea made such a mistake as he was party whip for quite some time so he surely knows the importance.
What a baptism of fire for the new speaker. I’m no expert but I think that when the situation degenerated he should have suspended the session immediately and not allowed all the ‘unparliamentary language’.
It is truly sad that the opposition wants to bring down the government in this way. Instead of aspiring to be elected with a strong majority in favour of their policies the most they aspire to is to bring down government with some foolish mistake. Now some bright spark might try to equate this with the vote which brought the Sant government down in 1998 but that would be pure rubbish.
Here you have an MP who made a mistake whilst then you had an MP who was making a statement. If the vote was re-taken yesterday the proper vote would have been registered whilst in 1998 nothing would have changed as Mintoff wanted to vote against but instead abstained to minimise damage.
I’m not so old (or at least I keep telling myself that) but I remember the same sound of a vulgar idiots shouting in parliament from the days pre-1987. Then it was from the government seats that all sorts of obscenities were hurled at the opposition (funny how now it’s the same party from the opposition benches).
I remember us as kids watching Xandir Malta and the parliamentary debates (yes, then kids used to watch these things with their parents as they worried for their children’s future) in black and white and with a very grainy picture. I remember my mum telling my dad to turn off the TV as it was not good for us to hear such words but they both would keep listening as those days politics were a question of life or death. In Maltese they say il-lupu jibdel sufu imma mhux drawwiethu. We really need a change but on the Labour side!
This is very similar to what happened yreas ago when parliament was debating the building of the new power station at Delimara. That debate lasted beyond midnight but the behaviour of Labour MPs was much worse. Perhaps because this time Lorry Sant, Johnny Dalli and Niksu are missing. Labour is still the same however much Joseph tries to give it a new look.
[Daphne – He isn’t really trying to give Labour a new look. He’s the one who led the rabble out of parliament.]
F’dawk il-pulcinellati li smajna kien jemm lis-specjalista ta’ Haz-Zebbug prezenti (il-back bencher)?
“rioting peasants” you couldn’t have described them any better. imagine the peasants in power.

SOCIALIST – ma nafx kemm taqra bl-Ingliz – ahseb u ara kemm tifhem li taqra, ghaliex l-anqas bil-Malti ma taf tikteb.

In-Nazzjonalista slavag ukoll ta’. Imma bil-pulit. Bhall-Irlandizi. Jitbissmulek f’wiccek u jikkoltellawk wara, meta jaqa s-siparju.
Araw l-istandings orders tal-parljament u pprocedu minn hemm. Jien ghandi l-ikbar simpatija ghalih jekk ivvota hazin, izda b’daqshekk? Jekk segwa l-protokoll u kissru, anka involuntarjament, daka mhux problema tal- Opposizzjoni (li forsi kienet ghaddejja minn mument ta’ deja vu delizzjuz dak il-hin)
L-importanti li Daphne Caruana Galizia m’ghandiex allejanzi politici. Mela, mela.
Nimmy, according to you, Nationalists and Irish are “well-mannered savages”: a typically Labour paradox. I don’t expect PL sympathisers to always make sense so I won’t even ask what the Irish have got to do with all this.
On another point, I see you’re one of those who would desperately like Daphne to be “neutral” and without political leanings.
nimmy, tidher li thobbhom it-tejatrini habib.
Ara ghal min ser nibnu parlament gdid ta 80miljun…tal-biki! Lanqas jafu jidecidu bejn iva u le!
Where is Marisa Micallef? How does she feel now after seeing her leader making a mockery of our highest institution? Does she honestly believe that we have a new Labour? This present Labour is the same as that of the 1980s.
Mandikx alfej tghid alijom ta daphne coz your fakkin worst than them…qed taqa an nejk daphne ax xorta se jirbhu l-elezzjon l-pl….
go fuck yourself witch
Keith Falzon tiktibx bil-Malti ghax kelma wahda li hi wahda tajba ma ghandekx! Tghid min qed jaqa’ ghan-nejk?
It’s Keith Lanzon not Keith Falzon. Keith Falzon is OK.
they will never change…………………… no earthquake will ever change their arrogance and mentality.
What a bunch of animals. They should agree to have all debates televised so that voters can see their screwed up faces of hatred. How can people exchange ideas in that environment? What is the point of debate?
@ another john: inti ghalija qieghed tighd? jien naf xi tfisser li tkun socjalist u jien minix 100% laburist minhabba il-fatt li ghalija muwiex partit 100% socjalist…. minix hekk bi tradizjoni. fittixt informazzjoni jien fuq l-istorja ta malta u wahdi indunajt bic-car li il-labour ghamel iktar gid minn tal-pn, pero naf nikkritika lit tnejn. nerga’ nighdlek, minix 100% laburist… u l-ideologija tal-pn (demo-kristjana) ma naqbilx maghha. ma naqbilx li il-politika ghanda jkolla x’taqsam mar-religjon ghax dik inkwiet iggib. ghalkemm l-isem tal-partit huwa partit nazzjonalista, il-pn qatt ma kien nazzjonalist esagg. l-isem gie hekk minhabba li darba, partit marghuf bhala partito anti-riformista imexxi minn fortunato mizzi rebah elezzjoni b’mod konsiderevli u iddecieda li jbiddel l-isem ghal dak li naraw illum….
