No, we're not party functionaries – we're just paid by the party

In the context of political parties owning TV stations, are journalists working with the respective stations doing journalistic work or are they party functionaries?

“There is no one at Super One who is employed with the MLP. Yes, the main shareholder is the MLP but One Productions has an independent board of directors and the management is completely autonomous… the journalists in the newsroom are employed by the station, not the party.”

-Michael Vella Haber, managing director of Super One, interviewed by Malta Today in August 2006

My, my, what self-delusion. Try telling that to Jason Micallef – but then, he probably did. Super One is now Jason’s Army.

Another one with a Masters in European Studies claiming he is an economist.

    • JoeM says:

Are you sure that a Masters Degree in European Economics, Politics and Law is the same as a Masters Degree in European Studies?

I imagine that a Masters in Economics, of whatever kind or area of study, makes the holder an economist, no? Just like a Degree in Law makes one a lawyer, I presume.

[Daphne – A mixed master’s degree in European economics, politics and law does not make one an economist – just as it doesn’t make one a lawyer – or for that matter, a politician.]

Isn’t it funny (sad?) that they can’t even decide which language to use on their website or journal?

    • Antoine Vella says:

True, but at least he’s literate. The whole website is on a totally different level compared to Maltastar.

  2. Harry Purdie says:

Looks like Sal Mineo–and guess what happened to him.

  3. M. Bormann says:

He does look uncannily like Sal Mineo.

  4. maryanne says:

Daphne, thanks for putting a photo of Jason in which he’s not smiling. Somehow it is more bearable.

And then there are those who aren’t officially paid by the party to do its dirty work on the dirty website.

The rubbish website was started by Labour as a form of blackmail to stop the truth coming out about Consuelo Scerri Herrera.

This is evident as it was first promoted by Labour representatives the very day it came into existence when only the creators could have possibly known about it.

Now all the jealous wannabes who have long borne a personal grudge stemming primarily for Daphne’s success in her line of work are jumping on the dirty band wagon.

They can fool themselves in thinking they are anonymous, but the reality is they will remain the nobodies there were to start with.

Keep up your good work Daphne, you have much respect now even more than before, if that is at all possible.

“Now all the jealous wannabes who have long borne a personal grudge stemming primarily for Daphne’s success in her line of work are jumping on the dirty band wagon.”

Fortunately, the bandwagon is metaphorical. Marie, Josanne, Erika and post-postpartum Claire would flatten the real thing if they jumped on it.

    @ Antoine Vella
The website is funded and supervised by the EU foundation for progressive studies and has to adhere to certain standards.

  7. Drewsome says:

“The management is completely autonomous etc blah etc”

After a desperate search for a politically correct or reasonable appropriate or uncensorable reply, sorry, the same word kept cropping up…..

    BOLLOCKS.

The day Super Wunnnnnn is truly autonnnnomuss is the day I break into my cyanide capsule…..

This might interest your readers Daphne…totally unrelated to this post but very pertinent to the ongoing CSH saga…

    Any news of yesterday’s hearing?

[Daphne – No. The sitting was adjourned because of family mourning and no new date has been specified yet.]
