Foreign Secretary speaks to Saif Qadhafi
20 February 2011

Foreign Secretary William Hague has spoken to the Head of the Qadhafi Human Rights Society about the situation in Libya. A Foreign Office spokesperson said:

“The Foreign Secretary spoke today with Saif Qadhafi, son of Colonel Qadhafi and the Head of the Qadhafi Human Rights Society, about the deteriorating situation in Libya. The Foreign Secretary made clear the UK’s grave concern at the escalation in violence. He expressed alarm at reports of large numbers of people being killed or attacked by Libyan security forces. The Foreign Secretary told Mr Qadhafi that the Libyan Government’s actions were unacceptable and would result in world-wide condemnation. The Foreign Secretary strongly encouraged the Libyan government to embark on dialogue and implement reforms.

“We will continue to monitor the situation in Libya and reflect this in our travel advice, which has been updated today to recommend against all but essential travel to Libya. All those British Nationals without a pressing need to remain in the country should leave by commercial means if it is safe to do so. The British Embassy in Libya is in contact with the British Community through our consular warden network and is providing consular assistance and advice.”

The Maltese Parliament should not interfere. Its not our business. Its a Libyan internal problem. It is written that the forces of Islam from east to west will converge against the Christian forces of the North in the Adriatic sea and Malta couldl be one of the casualties of war.

  2. And The Sunday Times in Malta today reports St Paul’s Feast celebrated in Tripoli on February 9 – that’s the hottest news in that city, it seems.

Unbelievable: they should be organising an evacuation plan, and instead they talk about a travel warning.

The media in Malta is becoming more and more parochial. Combine that with apathy/laziness (unless they receive a prepared press release ready for copy / paste) and the results are for everybody to observe.

Eventually – not sure you read this, but incredibly well written IMHO:

And – Is this for real or a twisting of words and facts?:

    http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/no-divorce-for-abused-women-%E2%80%98because-abusers-will-also-remarry%E2%80%99-%E2%80%93-andre-camilleri

If real, well, I needed no proof that despite credentials, respectability, and standard of education, anyone who pronounces him/herself against giving people the right to divorce quite frankly lacks logical and intelligent reasoning skills, fullstop. Well, your typical God-believer I suppose. Plenty of those about.

It’s really not a question of opinion or one’s disagreement with. I don’t need divorce but I sure as hell will vote for its introduction, even though I’d much rather not have to because in so doing I will be playing along with the charade.

Oddly enough neither the UN’s homepage nor its news headlines feauture Libya, except in passing.
The word ‘Libya’ does not even feature on the news page, though it is probably buried in one of the articles linked from that page.

Seems the UN has heard about there being some trouble in Libya. BBC has just reported that Ban Ki-moon informed Gaddafi that he is ‘concerned’ about the situation developing in Libya.

Did he read something about it on Maltastar?
