L-investigatur ‘interrogat’
Julia Farrugia tintervista lill-Kummissarju John Rizzo
Nhar it-Tlieta Raymond Caruana jagħlaq 20 sena minn mindu nqatel u fit-28 ta’ dan ix-xahar ukoll Karen Grech tagħlaq 29 sena maqtula. John Rizzo jgħid li “It would be my day jekk insolvi Karen Grech jew xi Raymond Caruana. U nista’ ngħidlek li għamilna xogħol kbir fit-tnejn li huma. U meta ngħidlek xogħol kbir, xogħol kbir . Ħinijiet twal ta’ investigazzjonijiet. Anke jien involvejt ruħi personali. Qabel spiċċajt mis-CID investigajt il-każ ta’ Raymond Caruana b’mod intensiv u ppruvajt nagħmel ħilti kollha bħalma ppruvajt nagħmel ħilti kollha f’ta’ Karen Grech, meta ġibna investigaturi minbarra minn Malta.”

Kien ikun ahjar li l-kummissarju ntervista lil Julia.
Dan qed jghid li l-pulizija baqet tinvestiga il-kaz ta’ Raymond Caruana anke wara li ressqu lil Nicholas Ellul? Jekk vera huwa hekk allura il-Pulizija taf, jew ghandha xi hjiel ohra?
Jien qatt ma smajt li dwar il-kaz ta’ Raymond Caruana gew xi barranin, u nahseb b’dak li intqal hawnekk ma kienx hemm ghalfejn esperti barranin ghax ma tridx tkun xi investgatur kbir biex tinvestiga u ghal anqas tissuspetta min seta kien involut. Ma nahsibx li Nicholas Ellul kien wahdu?
Il-pulizija barranin gew, imma meta tela fil-gvern il-PN u nvestigaw bir-reqqa kollha dawn il-kazi ta’ delitti li wahhxu lill-pajjizna.
Jiena cert li d-delitt ta’ Raymond Caruana ghadu mhux solvut mhux billi resqu l-qorti lil dak li kienu jsejjhulu c-Caqwes. Jiena ma nafx l-affarijiet imma fit-trakk tlett persuni zgur kien hemm, dawk it-tlett kriminali Zwieten, flimkien ma ohrajn u l-arma – machinegun – kienet f’idejn wiehed minnhom.
U allura fejn jidhol ic-Caqwes? Ghax kellu l-arma tal-Labour pinguta fuq drighu?
[Daphne – Le, l-arma kienet tieghu.]
What is so weird? Do you doubt what the Police Commissioner stated?
[Daphne – No, David, what’s weird is the fact that he is being interviewed by Julia Farrugia on this particular case, a sort of Alice Through The Looking Glass scenario in which they both ‘know’. Also, what is the commissioner saying here – that Nicholas Ellul was falsely arraigned for the murder of Raymond Caruana, and that there is somebody else out there who did it?]
He doesn’t give the impression he was savouring the irony underlying the interview. No wonder this sleuth didn’t solve the Caruana and Grech case. Perhaps, that wasn’t his day…
[Daphne – Perhaps you don’t realise that it’s a lot more serious than that. Nicholas Ellul, the owner of the gun that killed Raymond Caruana, was arraigned for his murder. By the police (of course). So what is Rizzo saying here – that they arraigned Ellul when they knew for sure that he didn’t do it? That they arraigned him on a whim and without proof? That despite Ellul beng charged with this murder, he believes somebody else did it? Terrible.]
Rizzo doesn’t NEED to say anything. ‘Karen Grech u Raymond Caruana’ is Malta’s ‘9/11’. Just whisper the phrase and the tearful platitudes drown all rationality.
I understood the implications. But I am afraid of them. As they would somehow vindicate (former Inspector) Dr David Gatt.
When was Ellul arraigned? Will that date vindicate Alfred Sant too, when he called Rizzo a paravendu?
[Daphne – Christmas Eve 1990, around 10 years before Rizzo was made Commissioner of Police. You should also read this:
http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/national/fenech-adami-i-did-everything-possible-to-see-karin-grech-raymond-caruana-murders-solv ]
In the Malta Today report, Fenech Adami says: “…we told the police that if the person (i.e. Nicholas Ellul) could not say who was the person it last gave the weapon to, then it should proceed against the person.”
Perhaps Ellul had finally decided to tell the police what they wanted to know and this cost him his life. Just like Ganni Psaila.
One cannot even exclude that Ellul and Psaila were both betrayed by someone within the police.
U kif hadd qatt ma jsemmi xejn dwar l-isparatura ta’ Hal Tarxien? Dan kien kaz gravi hafna wkoll u qisu qatt ma gara xejn.
Tispara go daqs dawk nies waqt car-cade, bniedem jghid li ra lil xi hadd jispara u kellmu wkoll, ovvjament quddiem nies ohra, u qisu qatt ma gara xejn. Tal-biki.
Mietu hafna nies b’overdose. Pero’, wiehed jista jahseb ukoll li dawn gew maqtula minn xi hadd. Nicholas Ellul b’overdose miet.
Take a look at Real Crime UK on YouTube (link provided below) and see to what lengths British police and forensics go to in solving crimes, some of which have been cold for 30 years or more, and with today’s DNA technology these cases get solved.
BBC’s Crime Watch UK has helped solved many cases with members of the public feeding information during the airing of the re-enacted crime cases. Some years ago we had a similar programme on TVM called “il-Kaz” but no cold case got solved. Maltese too afraid to talk and give information over the phone?
