And just four months after Jum Il-Helsien, Gaddafi snubs Mintoff
The Times, 23 July 1979
COLONEL GADDAFI SNUBS MR MINTOFF, POLITICAL CIRCLES FEEL
Prime minister Mr Mintoff did not meet the Libyan leader, Col. Gaddafi, during his short stop in Tripoli last Friday. Instead, he was reported to have met Major A. Jalloud and officials of the General People’s Congress.
At the time, Col. Gaddafi was said to be in “a place near Al Beida”, which is roughly between Tripoli and Benghazi. Political circles in Malta felt that the fact that Col. Gaddafi was not present to meet Mr Mintoff could be interpreted as a snub and could reflect on current Libyan-Maltese relations.
Mr Mintoff returned late on Friday night from a five-day tour of Middle East countries, which included Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq. Mr Mintoff’s last stop, before returning to Malta, was at Libya. It could not be ascertained yesterday whether Mr Mintoff’s talks for oil supplies had a positive response.

Why is The Times parroting whatever Gaddafi tells them?
I will find it hard to take that newspaper seriously again after all this is over.
It’s as if there are no doctors to treat him in Tripoli.
Pathetic
The Times is not parroting whatever Gaddafi tells them. Gaddafi doesn’t say anything to The Times. The paper, like thousands of others round the world, is simply carrying foreign news wire reports – I believe The Times get these via Agence France Press (French) and the Press Association (British).
Did you really think that someone from the Gaddafi regime called up The Times and told them all that? The report is simply quoting the Libyan government spokesman, just as Sky News, BBC, CNN, Reuters and just about every news organisation – TV, print, radio and online – on the planet are.
The same news report you slag off then goes on to quote the Libyan opposition, a US spokesman, the US Defence Secretary, and gives details of the latest fighting on the ground, as well as background information on Kusa.
No doctors and no private clinics left by the sound of it. Maybe he no longer trusts the clinics sporting huge pictures of Gaddafi hanging from the balconies.

Do you think Tonio Fenech would care to supply the general public with further details?
Brothers, look at the date of the article. Are you all chicken headed?
