Compulsory reading for Maltese politicians and assorted 'progressive liberal' idiots

Die Welt on the resignation of Schleswig-Holstein governor candidate Christian von Boetticher over an affair with a teenage girl:

Politicians admittedly have a right to a private life. But politicians alone don’t decide what counts as private.

A state governor, as Boetticher hoped to become, is not a pop star. His stage does not serve his personal fulfilment. It is a representative post.

In a society that, according to one’s perspective, is either finally living through self-determination or is grimly over-sexualized, CDU politicians also find themselves in astounding situations. Political morality, even in its non-Victorian form, still requires a certain self-discipline. Those who seek risk and adventure in their private lives will also be judged accordingly on a political level.

Joseph Muscat and the junk in his political skip – and believe me, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando would be in Joseph’s skip by now if he were not repelled by the thought of having to share a bench with the wife he hates and is gagging to divorce – should print out those immortal words in 72-pt and stick them above their desk.

Or their bed – wherever they spend more time.

A STATE GOVERNOR IS NOT A POP STAR. HIS STAGE DOES NOT SERVE HIS PERSONAL FULFILMENT. IT IS A REPRESENTATIVE POST.

    “Or their bed …. ”

    Sorry, no space there.

    Too many teddy-bears.

I wonder whether that Azzopardi Who? from Malta Uni has read this.

Assuming he can understand what it is all about, it will do him a wealth of good.

OK, I am not reading this. I am neither a Maltese politician nor an assorted “progressive liberal” idiot. I’ll go straight to the next one.

  5. Pecksniff says:

    Compulsory reading for Andrew Azzopardi.

It’s not just what a politician does, it’s also what he doesn’t do.

I would like to to know what JPO, Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, is doing to advance the island’s R&D agenda.
I’ve been to innumerable seminars and workshops hosted by Malta Enterprise, listening to the umpteenth speech calling for greater integration between the UoM, ME and the MCST.
Surely the chairman of an entity, set up specifically to interface between the former two and grasp the potential opportunities which could arise, has a strategy by now.

To date I’ve heard nothing from this man in this regard except for the initial platitudes.
There’s a whole system of entrepreneurs and employees who take this silence as a given. Time, in their universe, is of the essence.

Maybe Dr.Gonzi should take note why certain people shouldn’t be entrusted with such posts to quell their narcissism.

“A STATE GOVERNOR IS NOT A POP STAR. HIS STAGE DOES NOT SERVE HIS PERSONAL FULFILMENT. IT IS A REPRESENTATIVE POST.”

That is definitely the opposite of what Joseph Muscat thinks.

    • La Redoute says:

      Joseph Muscat doesn’t think.

    • Edward Clemmer says:

Which of these three statements is the definite opposite of Joseph Muscat? Pop Star–Personal Fulfilment–Representative Post?

A State Governor is not a Pop Star: As Opposition Leader he is a State Governor in waiting–pretty much like Joseph Cushcieri’s 6th MEP seat. As for LP Leader, what else do you do, except for the public display of the Joey-Michelle tandem? Seems like being a Pop Star to me.

His stage does not serve his personal fulfilment: I thought all the world was a stage for Joey. Or are we talking about stage of personal or political development? He is hoping to be the youngest (or its that least mature?) PM in Malta’s history–another line for his CV.

Yes, he hopes to run the Fiefdom of Malta–hands on all the controls, pushing all the buttons. Politics is gaming theory, not the lives of 430,000 people hoping to make progress in the real world.

A representative post: except as an MEP to Brussels, Joey has never been elected. As a co-opted member of the Maltese parliament, the electorate he represents have yet to vote for him. A STATE GOVERNOR is A REPRESENTATIVE POST. But what does it represent to Joey?

It seems that this last statement must be the statement that is intended to mean the definite opposite of what Joseph Muscat “thinks.”

I think the appropriate verb for Joey is not “thinks,” but “strives for.” The Governor of State is what Joey strives for. It’s all ambition for power. That’s all he “thinks” about.

    “IT IS A REPRESENTATIVE POST”

Tell that to the PN MPs who chose to ignore the referendum result.

  9. The Shadow says:

If he’s gagging for divorce, presumably to marry somebody else, should he be attending rave parties without the person he intends to marry?

Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men? The Shadow knows!
