Malta's Gaddafi fans
Forty years of Labour Party brainwashing about Gaddafi and how wonderful he is because he gave us money for social services and the Ta’ Qali stadium turf (while butchering his people and decimating their most basic freedoms) have taken their toll on the mental health of the Labour-voting population of Malta, and especially on the politicians of that party.
This man here, commenting on timesofmalta.com’s comments-board this morning, typifies the attitude.

Gnien il-Waqa’ tar-Regim ta Gaddafi? haha true but I don’t see why we should remove the name. After all, he was a great man for Libya before he became too much of a dictator… I think we should leave it as it is and just remember him for the good he did for his country.
After all, there are many gardens around the world who are named after many “hated” people, but they didn’t change their name! Did they rename palaces and landmarks of Kings and Queens who were deposed or killed? No!
Although It is done with the right intention, I think we are being a bit too hasty

Pajjiz literalment tal-imgienen. Ignorance is so great, so deeply ingrained and so widespread, despite all the money and effort funnelled into free education for all over the last 20-odd years, that I have given up on anything possibly changing it.
We used to think that ignorance could be eradicated in one generation, but the children of the peasants with pitchforks have grown up and what do you know, they think exactly the same way except that now they can write (sort of), know some English (sort of) and use the internet (sort of).
With each passing year it becomes more obvious what the battles and the tension are really all about at every general election. It’s not about Labour v. PN, not at all. It’s the ignorant fighting to take over and the normal people struggling desperately to keep them out for another five years’ grace.
You can change the names of the parties, change the leader, mix and match and shift policies, but that’s what it is. Any party the ignorant love, others will run away from and fight against. Because at root, the fear is not of Labour running the country, but of the crass, the stupid, the inept, the primitive and the unthinking doing so.

Can I have your email address? I’ll send it to you in Word format?
[Daphne – Thanks, but we’re probably going to have problem with those Maltese fonts. [email protected]]
I converted it to MSWord – very readable, but yes, a lot of font errors which would take an age to go over.
Maltese fonts? What Maltese fonts?
Apart from the complete absence of Maltese fonts throughout the whole document, the orthography is atrocious; a legal document written with the usual Maltese mentality of “U iva l-aqwa l-messaġġ … l-aqwa li niftiehmu!”
Anyway, “l-importanti li Joseph Mizzi u Julia Farrugia ħadu li ħaqqhom”.
Hmar taqtalu dembu, hmar jibqa.
Prosit ghal partit progressiv, liberali tal-partit gdid tal-Lejber.
Once I employed an 18 year-old teenage boy who used to live with his nanna. Unbelievable – he used to talk about and praise Mintoff as though he lived those years.
People talk about and praise Gaddafi even as he wreaks havoc with people’s lives.
Same difference.
I have never heard the Labour Party and its supporters say anything positive about the Nationalist government – but in this case, because Gaddafi is their friend, then “we should remember him for the good that he did”.
Kieku l-injoranza tixghel, mohhom power station. No need for wind farms, or converting the noxious gases from Maghtab to electricity. All we need to do is to harness the combined mental powers of the great unwashed and Bob’s your uncle.
No need to apply for an IPPC permit, either. Boiler no. 7 can be decommissioned. Oh joy.

I do not understand why all this interest in the Libyan people (rebels) and hatred for Gaddhafi Family from a section of Maltese people .They make it so obvious that they carry a chip on their shoulder, since Gonzi PN and his predecessor after all the smooching and boot licking they did to Ghaddafi, they never managed to get a single dime. So to all these people I tell them to save their venom as it will get them nowhere and would certainly effect nobody. By all means I am definitely no Ghaddafi Fan or defending him in any way.
One Question I would like to ask these bloggers have you ever written ANYTHING on other dictators such as Assad or Ben Ali or Mubarak and the sufferings their people gone and going through .
That might be the Mark Borg who started this https://www.facebook.com/pages/Support-for-Muammar-Gaddafi-from-Malta/173585636026366?sk=wall
They are following what their leader said: “the end justifies the means”
Very, very sad indeed.
That comment reminded me of the Evil One in James Bond films, who is always stroking a cat. I love cats. So I can conclude that he is to be applauded for the good he did to his cat. Sillogism tal-qamel.

I have a name: GNIEN IL-QERRIEDA, we have always have to moan about something especially the PL supporters.

It’s worth repeating your words, because you said it all, Daphne.
That actually might be our only hope: to get more right-thinking voters to realise that as you put it so well, it’s not Labour versus Nationalists but ignorance versus common sense.
It is so obvious why these people relate so well to the despots and the maniacs of this world, including Gaddafi
I think Merkel (or is it Merker?) should have Potsdamer Platz renamed to Hitler Platz then.
I like this bit: “It’s the ignorant fighting to take over and the normal people struggling desperately to keep them out for another five years’ grace.”
Inti vera genju (jew genja?).
On an other subject if I may, please.
Why do Labour speakers always deride or talk in a disparaging manner about the excellent state our roundabouts and road sides are embellished with flowers and greenery?
Could the reason be that they are so much appreciated by all?
Just recently Mr Leo Brincat who has been appointed as shadow spokesman for the environment (unbelievable….before he was for IT…two subjects the PL did not care or believe about ) said ”The environment is not only beautiful roundabouts.”
Yes, it is true BUT what a big difference and how pleasing to the eye in the heat and when the country is brown. Of course, to the PL they are waste of money and we can do without them.
