The first divorce under the new law: Labour divorces Muammar Gaddafi
Another five minutes of waving, and we'll nip inside to consummate the marriage.
It’s a story as old as time. So many men have been there before. Somebody marries them for their power and money and then, when they lose everything, the trollope divorces them.
You should have heard George Vella, who will be our foreign minister in 18 months, on Super One this morning. Gaddafi was terrible, a human rights abuser, he did awful things to his own people, the Malta Labour Party never had much to do with him, blah blah blah.
Do you know what he reminded me of, exactly?
That Dutch whore (‘glamour model’) who prostituted herself to Mutassim Gaddafi and flew out to Tripoli to have sex with him for money in the middle of a battle – because he told her the Gaddafis are winning – and who is now all over the news saying how mean and horrible he was to the servants and how much money he spent while people went hungry. And how scared she was blah blah blah.

Asked whether the Labour Party believed the government should adopt a tougher stand against Libya, in light of claims that that country was turning a blind eye to the problem of illegal immigration, Dr Vella said Malta should not speak on behalf of the EU.
“Libya is a neighbour with long standing friendship with Malta. While the government should be free to express itself about Libya, this is ultimately a European problem and Malta should not stick its neck out.”

This is the reckless and careless consideration given to security co-operation between Malta and the European Union spelled out in the aide-memoire and delivered under the signature of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Environment of the time, Dr George Vella.
One teeny weeny detail: inconvenient facts can be retrieved with such great ease today.
And I ask, why would Joseph Muscat wear a green tie to meet Gaddafi?
The uprising in Libya snowballed as soon the old flag was raised. The colours represent the three provinces.
At one point the dominant central black stripe, representing Cyrenaica, was made equal in width to the other two to send a clear message to the population in Tripolitania. The royal emblems were also removed to underline republican aspirations.
Now that it’s over the emblems have been reintroduced as a sign of integrity.
Little details which mean a lot.
He did say he’s colour blind.
