Ghax jaqbillek, Robert..

What was I saying about middle-aged Maltese politicians using Facebook unsupervised?

Here’s Robert, bang on cue:

Robert Musumeci
Wasal iz- zmien li ma nibqghux niffukaw biss dwar liema partit kien aktar vicin (jew le) ir-regim ta’ Gaddafi fl- ahhar 40 sena. Aktar hu opportun li l- poplu Libjan ma jibqax isoffri u fl-istess hin naraw kif pajjizna ghandu jagixxi f’dan l-istadju in vista tar- rejaltajiet emergenti.

Of course, his comments would be a whole lot more credible if he didn’t regularly host GaddafiPL leader Joseph Muscat in his Siggiewi home, or live with GaddafiPL future justice minister Jose A. Herrera’s sister.

But beyond all those little vested interests he’s got, he should know – as a grown-up with some claims to literacy – that this kind of introspection and soul-searching are a crucial part of civilised life.

Far from hindering ‘moving on’, they are an essential part of it. Without soul-searching and a proper discussion of events and what led to them, there can be no moving on.

It is because these things have not been properly talked about in 40 years that they are taking up our time and attention now that the inevitable crisis has occurred.

Even Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando is arguing like the PL elves:

Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando Pretty…. predictable really-some individuals know that ‘favours’ will be bestowed upon them if they try to denigrate the efforts of those who are not looked upon favourably by the powers that be. Bet JC will get a couple of programmes to reward him for his antics

[Daphne – Peter Pan Pullicino Orlando, all rock concerts and David Guetta and trying really hard (and failing miserably) to be hip and edgy. What are these people frightened of, exactly?]

Musumeci suddenly became aware of the fact that the PN’s attack on Labour’s closeness to the Gaddafi regime might lead to an indirect attack (from elsewhere, not the PN) on John Dalli’s “credibility”.

In typical Labour style, he starts dishing out “moderate” comments on the situation, obviously aimed at hitting hard on PM Gonzi and undermining anything which the PN says.

Musumeci knows perfectly well that he simply can’t come out in public defending John Dalli. He needs his constituents to keep on believing that he’s “close” to Gonzi and that he’s never going to move to Labour.

Don’t forget that come next year Musumeci will be facing a local election, the first one since his “coup” on Magistrate. Scerri Herrera.

    Dear Robert,

The Nationalist Party never had relations with Gaddafi’s regime.

And please tame the lust for latinate prose.

    Qabel ma jghadduk ta’ faxxista.

Issa opportun li l-poplu Libyan ma jibqax isofri ?

For full 42 years we did not give a damn about the Libyan people’s suffering.

We were only interested in the murderers’ miserly handouts while rejoicing at the occasional visits, business deals and awards for human rights.

Emergenti my foot. The truth has been scrawled all over the place for nearly half a century.

It is just that most of us did FA about it.

Now some of us have the cheek to castigate those who are reviewing and analysing decades of shameful behaviour in which we have been accomplices.
