Angela Merkel undermined by outspoken MPs
By Tony Paterson in Berlin, Thursday, 15 September 2011
Silvio’s X-rated diplomacy
(…)
Not even her position as the world’s most powerful woman has prevented German Chancellor Angela Merkel from becoming the victim of playboy premier Silvio Berlusconi’s sexist language.
The gaffe-prone tycoon has been overheard referring to the German leader as an “unfuckable lard-arse”, according to wiretaps reported by Italian newspapers. The offensive remark is the latest in a string of embarrassing revelations involving the 74-year-old Prime Minister, who three years ago caused a diplomatic incident by describing US President Barack Obama as “suntanned”.
Investigators overheard the latest offending remarks during a wiretapped conversation between the premier and the man accused of supplying prostitutes to Mr Berlusconi’s notorious parties in Rome and Sardinia. Italian newspapers have previously revealed salacious developments uncovered by investigating magistrates.

Please let me assure your readers that not all the Silvios are made of the same stuff as the two you write about.
Some (who I know) are even worse.
Unlike Berlusconi, Silvio Parnis is partial to elderly ladies, albeit for entirely different reasons.
And to mothers who pick their children up from the Paola Primary for exactly the same reasons.
I’m sorry I’m posting this here, but can’t help it. Have a look at Joseph Muscat’s signature. It’s the first time I’ve seen it. It does say a lot about him:

[Daphne – Underlining his own name. Tsk tsk tsk. Why am I not surprised.]
Spot-on. Not just the underline, but the way – half way through his surname – he realizes he is doing a signature and not re-writing his name and feels the need to do something which shows he’s busy or he’s got too many docs to sign.
This is a 14-year-old trying out different signatures on a napkin at a boring lunch.
Can you imagine Eddie writing Eddie Fenech Ad and then rushing through the last ‘ami’ as if he just realised the room is on fire? Labour. Skip.
Those who underline their signature like people to know that they exist. They like to make their presence felt.

In the good old days Germany would have declared war and invaded Italy for that remark. Irony is that bar some miracle in Italy’s economy, Berlusconi will soon have to go to Merkel cap in hand.

This is a link to Maurizio Crozza’s take on Berlusconi’s gaffe about Angela Merkel.
Has anyone out there heard of a “lard-arse”?
I haven’t.
[Daphne – It’s British English. And yes.]
I remember a line from a Li’l Abner cartoon (American) in the 1950s where the preacher says: “Will you take this tub o’ lard for your lawful wedded wife?”
Off the grapevine:
‘Glenn Bedingfield –
“Its international granche day today, so grab your bottle with some grenache inside. Either a rose or a red blend, grenache is an international grape variety found in many wines like Chateauneuf du Pape in France or Austrailans GSMs … enjoy” ‘
Grenache…as lovely a French word as ‘arriviste.’ The man is trying to show off and make a living out of wine at the same time.
Kemm hu bravu, Glenn. I used to write that way when I was 9, and without copying and pasting from Wikipedia, either.
Ah! Between the Berlusconi wiretaps and Wikileaks, 2011 is turning out to be the most scandalous year for world politics ever. I especially liked when he lamented how he couldn’t wait to leave his “shitty country.” The funny thing is, he’ll probably stay in office, at least for the rest of this year. Maybe he’ll even hang on until 2013!
Also, I would argue that Dilma Rousseff is REALLY the “most powerful woman in the world,” considering her country is much larger, and increasingly more globally-significant than Germany. Of course, Germany has the potential to be much more significant, but as we saw in Libya (and are now seeing in Greece), it routinely shies away from such responsibility.
It is kind of weird when you realise that Italians have been ruled by one man’s overpowering / controlling dick .
Berlusconi is king! We need more like him and less like JPO.
A mouthful of Manglish:
“The accident happened when the 21-year-old driver, from Luqa, of a Seat Ibiza being driven in the direction of Valletta jumped the center strip when he lost control and crashed into a Mercedes taxi that was being driven in the direction of the airport.”

Jigu go mohhi nies bhal Anglu l-pulizija, Leo il-bankier, Silvio il-fattiga, Joe Cuschieri il-bikkej. Dawn huma nies b’kapacita mentali ristretta.

There is something wrong over at Strickland House.
What on earth is the news value of this article?

Silvio Berlusconi missu jmur jinheba x’imkien u ma jurix wiccu fil-pubbliku.
I will never forget the horrible comment he made when there was a series of rapes in Rome.
People complained that in various areas of Rome it is very scary, especially for women, at certain times. People complained about the lack of police patrols and lights on the roads, no close-circuit cameras on the buses and so on.
His answer was that it is impossible to protect all the pretty ladies from getting raped.

So Government is now subsidising hunters and trappers.
Berlusca with his bunga bunga is like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. The Italians are either disregarding him completely, as they have always done with their teatrin governments, or they must be at their wits’ end, there being no plausible opposition to replace him.
The problem in Italy is the lack of a credible opposition.
The main party heading the alternative coalition is made of ex communists, a splinter group of ex DC together with a party headed by an ex investigating Magistrate.
They won’t decide whether to strike a pact with Casini’s UDC who’s dead set against Di Pietro’s tactics, or with Nicki Vendola’s Sinistra e’ Liberta’ who’s considered too liberal by the ex DC faction within the PD, the latter being a gay catholic communist (yes, this after all, is Italy).
Problem is, this seems the only way they can obtain a majority.
The last time they were in government with such a motley crew, they lasted a year and eight months.
It sounds so familiar.
Oh dear…he deserves the whole Duomo di Milano to be dropped on him, not just a miniature.
Why can’t the Italians demand the immediate resignation of this unf**kable short, ugly fart with dyed transplanted hair and botox-injected face before he embarrasses Italy further?
