Oh, for f**k's sake. Instead of sending him to the knacker's yard, they're going to make him finance minister.
Karmenu Vella. Il-Guy, the man who coined the term ‘is-snin tad-deheb’ to describe the years of social chaos and economic stagnation 1971-1987.
Il-Guy, Minister in Dom Mintoff’s cabinet in the 1970s. Minister in KMB’s cabinet in the 1980s. Minister in Alfred Sant’s cabinet in the 1990s. And soon, minister of finance in Joseph Muscat’s cabinet in 2013, after writing his electoral programme.
Tyrannosaurus rex. And he wasn’t even bright to begin with.
Let’s see. So far, we have: Joseph Muscat – prime minister; Anglu Farrugia – deputy prime minister and minister of the interior; Jose Herrera – minister of justice; George Vella – minister of foreign affairs; Karmenu Vella – minister of finance.
A change, did I hear you say? LOVELY.

You may also add to his portfolio, minister responsible for Customs and the Control of Contraband.
He has some experience in the field, having been headquartered at the Tunny Net in Mellieha for some time, and having said in court that he didn’t know – when he was a cabinet mnister – that it was against the law to fail to report to Port Control when entering Malta by private yacht from Sicily, going straight to Ghadira Bay instead.
No, Edgar, he has redeemed himself and has unofficially promised to attract manufacturing investment from the manufacturers of GPS systems. He is also working to make map reading and navigation a compulsory credit for architects.
They can’t write Maltese correctly.
Joseph Muscat – prime minister; Anglu Farrugia – deputy prime minister and minister of the interior; Jose Herrera – minister of justice; George Vella – minister of foreign affairs; Karmenu Vella – minister of finance…….Anton Refalo – minister of Gozo
One thing is certain – This list will ruffle some feathers now and generate a tsunami post election.
If it weren’t bitterly sad for Malta it may be fun!
Jurassic Skip.
Many of the posts on this blog have taken it as a foregone conclusion that the PL will be in government in 2013; I agree that the 2008 election was won by a handful of votes (1300 + ?), but I hope that the PN will not twiddle its thumbs for the next 18 months waiting for Joseph Muscat to be sworn in as PM.
I know that there is a whole new generation of voters who know nothing about the 1971 – 1987 Labour governments and the way they rode roughshod over all opposition; these new voters only know life under Nationalist governments and cannot even be bothered to find out what life was like pre – 1987. Or even in 1996-1998.
Now there is a campaign from the PL to whitewash, rewrite and airbrush history; apart from this blog’s efforts to show how it really was, I have not seen anybody else doing the same.
I am leaving out Nazzjon, Mument and Net because the majority of their readers and viewers are already converted.
As for our historians, I have given up on them long ago.
But what really depresses me are those voters who know all about the pre-1987 era and had voted Nationalist until now but still are willing to vote Labour just to try them out or out of spite, as if voting for a new government is trying on a new suit or pair of shoes.
I found this
http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/scr/1999/cr9960.pdf
which details the 1999 policy to revert Malta’s downgrading from A2 to A3 back in 1998 Labour Times and before the general election renewed confidence in Malta .
It is a well balanced report showing all defects and certainly not biased.
Snin tad-deheb indeed
